Post Number: 7566 Registered: Mar-04 | Well, I have been without a system in the Avalanche for FAR too long, so I have started the build. Here is whats going in: Eclipse 7200mkII DD C4a DDA 6.5's mids DDA T28 tweets 2 DD 3515E in 6th order thru midgate 1 IA 20.1 (until I can get another amp) 2 or 3 Deka 9a31 All Xscorpion wire and interconnections And a little Second Skin Damplifier Pro Here is a little start on some pods for the front doors: Sorry, didn't get any pics of the start of the mold, I will on the drivers side though. Drilled thru the door panel and mold to get some T-nuts in place. This will hold the pod on the door. CA glued the T-nuts in place on the inside of the mold. First layer of mat and resin on the T-nuts. |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7567 Registered: Mar-04 | Teeth on the T-nuts should bit into the mat pretty well. Didn't get the angle the pods as much as I wanted. Checked em out in the truck and this is as far as I can go, any more and glove box would hit the pod when opened. Second layer of mat on the T-nuts. |

Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7569 Registered: Mar-04 | Subs are more for daily, but should get pretty loud. I designed the 6th order for flat response. |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7570 Registered: Mar-04 | B440 resin and just some Elmer's mat from Lowes. Going to build a single 12" JL w7 box for a customer tomorrow morning, after that I'm doing the drivers side mold. Planning on getting the fleece stretched and some more mat laid. May start on the HU and amp rack while the resin sets. I am going to wrap the pods in grey vinyl. My do the amp rack in grey and black. |

Gold Member Username: Big_edge_headMilwaukee, WI Post Number: 3976 Registered: Mar-07 | Coming along nicely. I love putting resin over the fleece, it soaks so much up lol. |

That's actually a disadvantage of fleece...lol |
Gold Member Username: BernymacPhnom PenhCambodia Post Number: 4707 Registered: Sep-04 | ^^ yep. It doesn't make it any stronger because its thicker. The mat is what makes it stronger. |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7574 Registered: Mar-04 | Well, got the passenger side shaped and ready for a little body filler. Test fit again w/ the DDA w6.5 Mounted to the door panel to show how it fits. That is the vinyl im going to use, just need to grab a heat gun to help stretch it. Popped the door panel in. Its close, but the glove box can open fully without hitting the pod. |

Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7583 Registered: Mar-04 | Got started on the drivers side today: Trying a little something different on the drivers side. I had to sand the passenger side so dam much after fleecing to make it fit, so I did 8 layers of aluminum foil on this side. Hopefully that will give me enough gap to allow far less sanding on the edges once I fleece it. My super cool FG-artwork. |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7584 Registered: Mar-04 | Pulled the mold off the door panel: Pulling back the foil and getting ready to trim it down. Got most of the foil off. Going to wait awhile to trim is down w/ the air-saw, the top layer of mat is still a little gummy. |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7585 Registered: Mar-04 | The mold drops right in and seems to have given me the slack around the door panel that I wanted. Hope that is enough gap for the fleece and some 2 layers of mat. (its a bigger gap than the pic makes it look) |

Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7094 Registered: Nov-05 | thats a lot of damn filler.. why didn't you flush mount? |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7589 Registered: Mar-04 |
I just coated the whole thing and hand sanded it w/ 80grit. Did it at home and it was a *itch, should have just waited and done it at the shop tomorrow w/ my palm sander As for flush mounting, I really wish I would have but this was a little easier to cut. I may end up going back and redoing them later on. I just wanted to build it and get my truck up and running. I'm going on vacation on the 11th and want to have it playing for the trip. |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7097 Registered: Nov-05 | tell you a secret .. before the bondo completely hardens.. use a cheese grader.. ... makes sanding minimum |
Gold Member Username: SouthernrebelMonroe, Louisiana Team Audible... Post Number: 7590 Registered: Mar-04 | Didn't have a rasp or cheese grader here at the house, BUT....you see the knife in that first pic I do have a rasp at the shop though. |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7098 Registered: Nov-05 | i see i see to give the flush mount effect you can also add a layer of foam before you wrap the pods.. and leave a cutout for the drivers.. not a true flush mount but it looks like it with minimal work |
