u know most guys with their big sets (& even a not so big set) dont realize how much extra weight it adds up in ur ride
on saturday i sold my orion 2500d & 2 big optima D31 batt (thats about 150+lbs less) & today i noticed my wagon accelerating faster & moving a bit more agile than it has been in a while ...i also recently went from 2 10s to just a simple 1 12" which is about 25lbs less too so that 175+lbs is alot of weight reduction which will soon be noticeable in gas bills too
was already planning on downsizing & keeping my set very simple to a 1 amp system so the weight saving$ & more trunk space is a really good benefit for me too
check out ur system & see how much extra weight ur actually carrying around .....
It gets havy, especially when you have all your air ride setup in the trunk along with amps/subs/batteries. And then alot of fiberglass added to the interior.
I really don't notice a difference tho with the equiptment in and out.
2 spv 70's ~60 lbs each 3000.1d ~25lbs 2 12" alphas ~30 lbs each amp for fronts ~10 lbs boxs ~90lbs tons of 1/0 and misc wiring ~30 lbs
~335lbs!!! my car rides noticably lower in the rear, handles more boat like, gets worse mileage and rides worse. and when i hit bumbs my rear tires rub a bit.
my ride does not have a big engine - in fact its only 1.5Lt so even with a 200lb load in the trunk i notice a difference
D31 optimas r decent however imo that model is sort of out of date since there r other batts now with about the same size & weight but with considerably higher AH ex XS \ kinetik \ oddessy batts
...these days there r some really powerful amps being made & i prefer those 3 over a optima even though its a good batt , just doesnt cut it anymore with high current demand installs
canaan - damn ! ...thats like the weight of another vehicle in that van ur building ...
I dont have that much extra, 2 12's a box for each and 2 amps and wiring. But i have noticed my gas mileage went from about 29 to 26/27 mpg. I dont notice that its any slower though.
