Subs tested...
JL W6v2 12"
JL W3v3 12"
Hertz HX300d 12"
Image Dynamics IDQ 12"
.. All pairs and dual 4 ohm (W3v3s are dual 2ohm)

Amps
2 - Zapco DC REF 500.1s (500x1@2ohm)

Headunit
Alpine double din its the W505 i think.. ill have to ask

Mic
Audiocontrol SA 3055. We couldnt get ahold of a TL... working on it tho. The A/C is still a very accurate mic for the testing.. just note the TL scores might be different.

Electrical
200amp alt (not sure what brand) 1 kinetik HC 1400 (hood) and 2 kinetik HC800s (back).

Vehicle
2006 or 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition

----------------------------------------------
To start things off this is all in my friends car and all of his equipment.. All I did was help him with the boxes and running the test. He was running the JL w6s the past few months and liked the sq but wanted a little more power.

The W6v2's box is 3.2cuft tuned to 33hz with 2 4" aero ports. Everything is firing back to the SUVs hatch.

Hertz box 2.4cuft tuned to 36hz with 2 3" aeros. The subs are shooting up the ports back. (TINY box for 2 12s i might add...)

Test 1 - SPL on music
All scores are on music with random rap CDs.. whatever hit the highest score we kept. Not all of the subs hit the same on each song.

Direct drop in scores with the W6 box...
JL W6v2 - 142.3dB
JL W3v3 - 139.8dB (wired at 4ohm not 2ohm)
Hertz HX300d4 - 144.1dB
IDQ 12 - 141.3dB

Direct drop in scores with the Hertz box...
JL W6v2 - 141.5dB
JL W3v2 139.1dB (still wired at 4ohm)
Hertz HX300d4 - 143.6dB
IDQ 12 - 140.9dB

Test 2- Peak SPL with 30-60hz sweep 1 second intervals.

Direct drop in scores with the W6 box...
JL W6v2 - 143.9dB
JL W3v3 - 141.4dB (4ohm)
Hertz HX300d4 - 145.5dB
IDQ 12 - 142.3dB

Direct drop in scores with the Hertz box...
JL W6v2 - 142.6dB
JL W3v2 140.0dB (still wired at 4ohm)
Hertz HX300d4 - 144.9dB
IDQ 12 - 141.9dB

The scores on the tones seemed a little off to me on the mic. Compared to the music notes I would expect them to be higher but then again this was after 15-20 min of testing already. We NEED to get a TL so we can get more accurate numbers.

Test 3- SQ rankings on Roses by Outkast
We did all of the SQ stuff without knowing which sub was being played... had a 3rd party hook them up and let us listen. Mark is in the drivers seat, im in the passenger.

Final words on SQ

When it comes to the Hertz box... not even remotely a close battle. The HX300 dominated all the others it wasnt even funny.

JL box was much closer with the Hertz, W6v2 and IDQ but there was still a clear winner in each.

Final notes...
The test took like 4 f-ing hours, we swapped subs out so many times I felt like shooting myself in the end.
Mark took some pics but he has them, i dont. Ill post um when i get them.

Thanks for reading my novel!

Cool nice review. Maybe more people will consider running Hertz subs based upon what has been posted. Thanks for the effort!

Local dealer. It was right at $650 for 2 of them with full warranty.

Also the IDQ is V3. I wish we had a box designed for it.. clean clean sub.

I have the idq 12 v2 and the sq doesnt compare to the jl 12 w6v2 I heard. The Idq v3 must be a decent improvement.
