I'm just getting back into amps and subs after about 5 years. I know JL is top notch and from what I've read, they can take a ton of power. I've had friends overpower older (circa 2000) W3's way past their RMS and sound great. I'm not really into that, but given the deal I got on this amp I couldnt pass it up.
Anyway, I'm sure the birth sheet will say something like 540w RMS @ 2ohm which is the load I will feed it (2 ohm sub). I'm just wondering if I went overboard or should I be ok? Perhaps all I'll need to do is turn down the gain? (amp gain will go as low as 11)
Some background information to help you assess my situation:
-Kenwood X-991 headunit 5V Sub preout -4 gauge RF amp kit will be used. -This sub will be in a 3/4" MDF SEALED box built to exact JL spec (.625 cu. ft.) - I have access to a multimeter and a tuning CD if suggested.
Thanks for reading, I look forward to some responses, especially if you have experience with either product.
