i used to have a 15" re sx brand new around 2006. im looking for a setup for my gfs car with comparable sound, maybe using two smaller subs, and for a toyota camry. thinking maybe 2 kicker l7s. however im looking for a more affordable option. i still want it to get very very loud but maintain some quality for both but still be affordable

I know from experience that 2 12" Type R's are a very solid option.
Not the best, but for the money its pretty dang close.

Type X's are great, but you need to power them sufficiently to really enjoy them. I had one 12 and it was keeping up with 2 12" R's. Same amp same car. (Mazda Protege) on a JL Audio 1000/1.
2 Type X's would be considerably louder on sufficient power. That is also considerably more expensive.

" had one 12 and it was keeping up with 2 12" R's. Same amp same car"

either thats B.S. or the type-rs were in a sh1tty box...

same amp, same car, but with twice as much cone area...the type-rs shoulda had an audible difference of being louder

Yeah "Keeping up," doesn't mean it was louder.

2 subs vs. 1. Thats a no brainer. He asked my opinion on the Type X, I gave it. It is a very good sub. It kept up, but the 2 are going to be louder.

As for the box, I don't know anything about the box it was in. The Type R's were a buddy's set and the Type X was mine.

If your looking for SQ L7 are a bad option. I'm putting a system together for my girl too. I think you should go with a single 15. What kind of power are you going to give it? How much trunk is she willing to loose?

why not just run another SX 15" since you already know what to expect?

I would say run a 15" or 12" sx in that, since you have one and like the sound now. Shouldnt be to hard to fit a 15 in it.
