Power was not clamped for this testing but could have been as much as ~10kw based on my testing of a single 1500D in there. Bronze Member Username: SundownzMooresville, NC USA Post Number: 26 Registered: Nov-06 | I brought it out for a dB Drag show and it did 153.9 there as it was quite hot so I was a bit down from my testing inside - you can see that score on my stats page in Sumter, SC : http://www.termpro.com/asp/competitorstats.asp?Competitor_ID=78065&Season=2009&M ethod=6 The 153.8 score in Fayetteville was with two Z15s in my "small" dual sub box @ 53 Hz and the 154.8 was with two Nightshades in my "big" dual sub box but at 48 Hz instead of 53 hz. Next time I fire up the single sub box I'll be sure to take a video  Right now the Jeep has nothing at all in it - I had it all out fixing a hole in my floor. --- I agreed to send in a Z15 to the test and I did - by the way. There is no "man up" about it - the testing was supposed to go on a while back and I didn't have Nightshade motors in stock. The Nightshades are also custom built to order as well so I don't have one just laying around to send in and we are backed up building them as is - Z15s are in stock and ready to ship at any time as they are not custom made. I've done MECA Drive-By with it which is a 30-second average outside of the vehicle. The Jeep is also my daily driver so it plays music. |

Testing in you own vehicle only means so much. All the little things you do to the box and vehicle make the #'s. On the challenge all the boxes and power and vehicle are the same "HEADS UP TESTING" i would like to see what they do against the dc or t3 or rd. On another note don't you feel kind of stupid running meca when you are the owner of a company? I would think you would want to at least set records since you have an advantage in having product and what not. |

Many of my Team Sundown members have already done various swaps so I already know they compare quite well to other drivers on the market. I don't feel stupid at all running MECA - it is quite big in many areas and the MECA events I've been too have had better turn-outs than dB Drag shows in my area. Plus I have ALOT more customers that run MECA than dB Drag. I also do compete in dB Drag when it comes around - hence my stats page link. As well as nSPL and pretty much any show that comes near-by. I enjoy going to shows and demonstrating the product - whether it's a big organization or not. I'm not too concerned with setting records or I'd probably have a different vehicle for SS NW dB Drag as the Jeep is a bit limited on space |

I said I "may" send one in to start with and I am saying the same thing now. Wherever you got the information stating I confirmed to send one in for sure is incorrect. I confirmed on the Z15 and sent it in as promised. We are building as many as we can to meet customer demand as it is - I am not going to drop everything to build a sub to send in for testing when I already know what they can do. Attitude like yours is why many manufacturers didn't send anything in - you think this test is the end all be all. I attended the 8" and 12" challenges... and let me tell you that it wasn't worth our time and effort. |

Bronze Member Username: SundownzMooresville, NC USA Post Number: 31 Registered: Nov-06 | I have explained to you several times now that : 1) They are custom built and not laying around in stock like the Z15s. 2) We are at full capacity building them now as it is 3) I never said I was going to send one in for sure 4) I already know what they can do and so do several 100 customers that have them - reviews are pretty common. Sorry if you cannot understand that. Primary reason I sent the Z15 is that it is new and few people know what it can do so I wanted to promote it with the test. The Nightshade has been out for some time and I feel like there are plenty of reviews out there. I'd like to know who claims they blow constantly. We had a few issues with our coil supplier (all fixed now) and a run of bad adhesive (also all fixed now) along the way - all of which we took care of for the customers - otherwise they are doing quite well out in the field. Many Team members are still running subs from the original run of subs that we first released. One test won't let you see if they are just a forum fad or not -- if you would like to see some in action you can come to a show in this area and you will see a whole slew of them in action from burp to bass-race vehicles in most class types. There are quite a few in Sumter SC which is ~4 hours from you -- I drive about 3 hours to those shows myself. |

But such is life and SPL Prior to that he was consistently putting up 159s with it with four 3000Ds and four Nightshade 18s - and playing music well into the mid to high 150s. |

I also have one of only two documented no-wall vehicles that can BassRace 149.9 class daily with only 3kwatts and two NightShades 15"s. That's a decent accomplishment IMO. And that's BassRace on music for 30sec. Not any techno dBjams type stuff. I play Jay-Z, Kanye West, & Ne-Yo daily. I also hold multiple local state records if that makes any difference. Just let me know the class and I'll be there with my NightShades to compete whether it be burp or on music. I see nobody wants to talk about the White Magnum that was at SBN running a pair of NightShade 18"s powered by a pair of Sundown saz-3000s @ 0.5ohm each playing music full tilt at much as the judges would let him. He's now upgraded and is running a pair of saz-3500s @ 0.5 each on those same subs. They're about a year old with no issues. Anyone at the 3x dB Drag event this weekend got to hear it as well as anyone at SBN. As for comparisons, I've done head to head testing between subs from Sundown Audio, DC Audio, and Fi. I've chosen Sundown subs for a reason. They work best in my application. Anyone that wants to come out to any local comp in the SC/NC area I'll be glad to give you a demo and/or do some head to head testing if you want. I'm at a different event every weekend. (We're not that far from GA.) Or better yet bring a vehicle with your favorite brand of equipment and put it next to me in the lanes. |

Can't wait to make it back to a few shows when I actually get a new enclosure built. After Scott at Fi saved my azz (long story) I decided that I wouldn't switch to anything else unless something changed with the company, but Sundown has proved they have good products. I dont really think someone would bring a best buy box to bet and loose money and if they do id bet it was the last time they did so. There are nut huggers on every brand and not just in car audio. If someone listens to a "NUT HUGGER" when they buy something that is their own stupidity. I really dont listen to people who are pro this or that. I try to make educated decisions when i buy expensive items. I personally like side by side testing, its not perfect but its unbiased if done correctly. Everyone knows that if you give three guys even the same system and vehicle they will come up with three seperate results. If the boxes and vehicle are the same an the subwoofer is only swapped there is more to learn from its results. or at least that is my opinion. Forums need to cut the BS and just help the guy asking the question. Just remember when you call a guy stupid or other names they feel cornered and either go away or respond even worse than at first. I sure ray ray is a good guy but he needs to slow his roll. |

First off you obviously have no taste in car audio yourself since your running some L7's in your ride. What did you do go to Circuit City's going out of business sale and pick them up on the low low? I'm not what you like to call a Sundown nut hugger. I've run several brands and all types of equiptment throughout the past 11 years and my most recent and best results have come from Sundown Audio. Jacob takes care of his customers better than anyone out there. His product performs very well and in the slight chance that there is a failure he fixes the problem quickly. I personally have never blown up the coils on my Nightshades, so I can't say that I'm one of those people that you've heard of blowing crap up all the time. Please name the time and the place when you want your money taken. Hell I'll even do it with only one amp instead of two cause even running my ride at half power I know it's louder than yours. I know that you think spl competitions are stupid, but I drop a little knowledge on you so that maybe you will come out of this a little more intelligent. My specific car is 2 15" Nightshades in a no wall setup (for ignorant people like you that means that the box isn't completely verticle from the roof to the floor) I also have 2 Sundown saz1500d's that put out a total of 34XX watts. One thing I'm able to do with my amps that most other Sundown amp owners can do with a solid electrical is run them at .5 ohms. In case you don't know what ohms are it's the resistance in the coils of the subwoofer that determine the amount of ac voltage and current that the amps are capable of putting out to it at that particular resistance. Anyway most other amps on the market won't run at .5 ohms for competitions let alone daily like myself and tons of other Sundown users run them at. My particular setup has done a best of 151.2 db's in competition with this tiny amount of power. The car is also capable of doing what's called bassrace in the 149.9 db class. In case you don't know what bassrace is, it's playing music over a 30 second period to get the higest average but not going over the class db size... ie 149.9 That means that I have to average 149.9 db's or more depending on my start then entire run and beat the guy next to me without going over the mark. If there is a tie then there is a rerun until there is a loser. Oh and you being from the A I'm sure that you've heard of your boy Lil Jon. Well just to let you know the song that I bassrace with is "Push that nigga" and I bet you'll have a hard time seeing or breathing if you were to sit in my car while I play it. There are plenty of shows in our area and not that many in yours, so please make an attempt to come up this way and see what us "Nerds" will sh!t on your head with. Well, I guess that is all. Your homework is to find out what Ohm's law is and how to calculate power output of your amplifier. Oh wait that probably doesn't matter to you does it? You probably go by the big 2000 watts or 3000 watts max letters on the casing when the amp has 60 amps of fusing to tell people how much power your amps are making. Class is over for now. This box will drop into the low 30s quite effectively as well but not quite at 150+ dB levels. With the single sub box it also plays music - not as broad bandwidth as the dual sub box but maintains substantial output over a pretty broad spectrum. It goes down to the mid to high 30s quite well, thanks You have an open invitation to sit in it if we ever meet - then you can tell me if it is one note. |
