so i plan on getting one 12" kicker solo L7 sub for my truck. but dont really know what else to get with it since im kinda new to this. i have no clue what to get with it as far as amps and wireing and stuff. so what do you think would be good things to get with that sub without dumping like a grand into it?and if you have the spare time why are those products good with that sub (trying to learn a thing or two about this stuff) also one more thing, im a person who likes all kinds of music so i was wondering if there is a way to turn the subs off at any time if want to.

Don't get an L7, or any Keeker subs for that matter... they get loud but sound like ass. Get a Fi Q12 and a decent 1000RMS amp and you will be way better off.

As far as turning your sub off, I am not sure why you would want to, but you could mount the sub amp where you can get to it easily and just turn the gain all the way down. Or, you could turn the sub outs off on your HU if your model allows you to.

alright, thanks.
i'll look into those.

and a buddy of mine has a switch on his dash that he just flips, and it turns all of his amps and subs off. i just want to turn my subs off if im listening to like rock or something, i wouldn't think it would sound very good with tuns of bass. i haven't really heard it before though. im just asuming it wouldn't.so if it does please tell me otherwise.

thanks for the help though.

Rock sounds great with low end. Once you hear the kick drums and bass guitar at a realistic level you will be hooked for life. You just have to set your amp gain correctly. Rap is going to have way more output down low then rock anyways so you will have a good level on both if set correctly.

would it be easy enough to adjust your gain correctly when you're driving?

i wouldnt advise to be messing with the gain the whole time, I'd rather go through the HU or some amps have a gain control knob, where if you turn the knob up to max, it will only go to as high as you set the gain on the amp.

what size wire do you need. I usually just go with Kicker Hyperflex wiring kits. They are reasonably priced on ebay.

which sub? the Fi or the L7?

regaurdless, either way you could get away with a 4 ga. wiring kit. kicker hyperflex is good power wire. many things kicker makes are very nice, but their subs lack the fame they're cracked up to be. kicker amps are nice, they're wires, SOME highs, etc. subs.... you could get better for your money.

one sub would need about 15 or 16 ft. of power wire (just to be safe that you have enough) and i'd get about 3-4 feet of ground.

plus RCAs

if you want to be able to shut it off at any time then just run a toggle switch in line with your remote wire...you can get one on partsexpress.com for a couple bucks or even radio shack should have something for cheap...its real easy to wire up

If going with Kicker subs go with the CVR's or CVX's.

Also take a look at...

DC Sound Lab
Ascendant Audio
SoundSplinter
Mach5 Audio
RDaudio
REaudio
AudioQue

Always build your box to subs spec, it makes a world of difference.
