So as some of you might know, my next project is 4 RE8's (newer motors with DVC). When I bought them, the guy said one of them was making a "popping" sound, but didn't know which one though. All the coils read good, no scratching sounds when I free aired them on a measly 15w (computer amp). I was thinking either tinsel slap or bottoming out from over excursion? If the subs were in a common chamber, and 1 was wired out of phase from the other 3, could that cause just 1 driver to over extend? Any thoughts???
I don't want to build a box for 4 of them and have 1 to turn up bad, so I'm gonna build a box for just 1 and test each one separately.
hmm wire them out of phase will just cause it go react opposite of the rest, like as 3 moves up this one moves down and as this moves up the other move down etc, i dont think that will cause a pop, also i dont think it will be tinsel slap it might be over excursion maybe?
i would do as u said build a box for one and test each one
If in a common chamber, and with 3 drivers compressing air in the box on their inward stroke cause enough to over-extend the driver which is already being forced out electrically?
...maybe I'm just thinking into this too much lol.
