Bronze Member Username: Sonic_assaultKaty, Tx Usa Post Number: 11 Registered: Oct-07 | hey guys i have a couple of dimaond D6 15's i made a box using some specs i got from the "recomended enclosure size" from a diamond rep. my box turned out to be tuned pretty low since the guy told me each sub needed 3 cubes with 30 sqaure inches of port area,, and i gave them both about 8 cubes and 68"s of port area and increased the recomended port lengt by about 3"s. i need to some how tune it higher by adding wood on the inside. someone told me to extend the port.(make it an L shape.) would this help or what should i do?????????? PLEASE HELP!! |

BUT if you increased the port length from inside the box, resulting in less airspace, would also create a higher tune. Try http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html or http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31. This should help you fine tune it to where you want. Using the box calculators, what's the current size of your box and tuning frequency? (don't forget to subtract 0.14cf for EACH sub). How much power are you running? What vehicle? |
Bronze Member Username: Sonic_assaultKaty, Tx Usa Post Number: 18 Registered: Oct-07 | thanks for your reply. yes i figured out yesterday that i need to shorten my current port length to about half to get my preferred tuning. my box is currently tuned to right around 28 hz this way too low to be musical. my current port length is 16.75" i will make it somewhere around 8.25" long. my box is 8.5 cubes with displacement of subs(.33) and port area. my subs are 750 watts rms each and i have them on a massive audio 1500.1. my only concern is will my box provide enough cushion for the subs since its such a big box with a short port? thank you for your help. |

Go to the diamond website and they have the exact box setup. If you build the box the site for those subs they'll sound great. http://www.diamondaudio.com/PDF/current/WiringEnclosures/Dual15VentedEnclosure.p df are you wanting it to be louder? You could put a 1000w on each sub and be ok. take pics of everything. i miss my diamonds |
Bronze Member Username: Sonic_assaultKaty, Tx Usa Post Number: 23 Registered: Oct-07 | i actually spoke to diamond rep he gave me dimensions that would tune them to 40hz. he told me that is what they should be tuned to. the specs he gave me are 6 cubes total 60 square inches of port area 14.75 or something port length |

Your current box might work, it's a bit on the big side though. But I think those amps only do around 1300w so you might be ok (as far as bottoming out). I would do 6.5cf @ 28-30hz w/60sq inch port, that should be a very musical box. If you want it louder on music, try 7.0cf @ 34hz w/85sq inch port, but the 6.5cf box should sound way better and lower. |
Bronze Member Username: Sonic_assaultKaty, Tx Usa Post Number: 24 Registered: Oct-07 | ok heres the thing........i do not want to build a new box. i want to work with what i have now...and thats a box that is 8.5cubes with all displacement. and is tuned to 28HZ.....that is way too low. its not very musical at all. it suffers @ hitting anything above 35hz. dont get me wrong it gets insanley loud at the bottom ends. my rear liftgate flaps like a flag. and i know for a fact that my massive can do well over 1500 watts. massive is CEA compliant, and my friend blew the same subs i have with that amp(no clipping involved)...basically all i want to do is alter the length of the port to affect tuning.....my question is will i harm the subs because i have a big nox with a port that isnt very long? will there be enough air cushion for the subs??? |
Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois Braaap MX Post Number: 2425 Registered: May-07 | No offense but if your friend blew those subs on that amp, he was either clipping them or bottoming the sh!t out of them. Those subs can take a good beating. Not to be an @ss, but how do YOU know that massive amp can do over 1500w??? Your problem is not so much the tuning 28hz tuning, it's that your box is too big. If that amp does rated power there's a good chance of hurting those subs from over excursion. Anyway you can cut off a section of the box? That would make the box smaller and raise tuning. Got any pics of the box? or a sketch? |
Silver Member Username: Armykyle1Ms Us Post Number: 487 Registered: Dec-08 | ^^X2, U can run 2k on those subs. 1.5 is fine though. make the box smaller, keep the tuning low, hows the tuning on ur amp? if all else fails get some good midbass. to be truthful if ur buddy blew the same subs on 1.5 he was doin something wrong, did you guys get ur subs off the internet? |
Bronze Member Username: Sonic_assaultKaty, Tx Usa Post Number: 26 Registered: Oct-07 | tjanks for ur reply....yeah i did not buy those off the internet because i know they dont sell diamonds on the internet. i got them from a diamond dealer. but yeah my buddy might have done something wrong because he told me they collapsed his pre fab box.... he might have still banged free air maybe i dont know but...yeah i want to shorten the port because 28 hz is too low. and i dont want to go above 35hz. thanks for your help man |
Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois Braaap MX Post Number: 2428 Registered: May-07 | If you are wanting a MUSICAL box, just shortening the port alone won't cure it, but it should help a little. With that big of a box, your only going to be loud in a narrow frequency range. |
