We bought a second hand Merc A170 and had to replace the battery, onnly to find that we did not receive a radio code!
I would appreciate any help with this please!
This is the info I have for it , (it's in German unfortunatley, thats where we are now and mine isn't super.. but I hope you can make heads or tails of it! we got it off the radio..)
Mercedes do not make radios , they only affix their badge onto well known makes (BECKER , BLAUPUNKT , ALPINE etc so the first thing required is any manufacturer`s name or symbol anywhere on it.
Please quote everything you can find
Also how many Preset Buttons are there on the front of this radio?
Thanks so much for all your help, I really appreciate it. I'm so sorry for all the back and forth on this, but the code didn't work. Hubby had a closer look and says:
"The ID number is correct, but the radio has 8 FM presets. Maybe this will give a different code number."
You were indeed right about the 5 digit code, unfortunatly the one you gave me didn't work
This is what i got from my husband after he tried it :
"The radio has 8 FM presets, but you have to press the FM button to get to digits 5-8. The radio guide says the code should be 5 digits and only contain the numbers 1,2,3, or 4. So, I cannot input 11711. It has to be a different code.
It might be best to get the full list and try the different combinations."
So.. could I bother you for your help again? I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Thanks!!
The Four Presets = 11311 (which you say doesn`t work)
Five Presets = 41211
Six Presets = 32111
If none work , then make sure you are entering them correctly.
If still fail to work then either it is the wrong set of calculators ( but they`ve worked OK for many other Merc Codes in the past) ...or I am using the wrong Serial Number (WDB1680081J273420 )....or your radio has been recoded in the past to a completely different code number.
From past experience of Merc Codes , I would have expected the answer to be the Four Presets (11311 )..or possibly the very common Six Presets (32111)
Thanks so much for those codes. We have tried them all and none of them work! I'm in a panic now! We have even contacted Benz here and they say they cannot give us a new code "by law", only a new radio ?!?! I have no idea what to do now.
Have you any suggestions?
How could the radio have been set to a totally new code? How does one do that?
Once again, thanks for your help, it's so appreciated!!

It now looks as though your radio has been recoded in the past to a completely different number to the one that it left the factory with.
It will now have to be taken to a Radio Decode Specialist ( or perhaps your local Car Radio / Audio Store) where the memory chip (EEPROM) will have to be electronically "read" and/or recoded to get you working again.
It`s a fairly straightforward procedure using a laptop or specialist electronic kit and will definitely get you working again
