Saturday, January 17, 2009 - 14:34 GMT If i have two 12" Rockfordfosgate P3S's and the max out at 400 RMS and they are getting only 282 watts RMS each, then would they sound distorted at high volumes?

Saturday, January 17, 2009 - 14:56 GMT it depends how you use the term "max out" in power terms, probably not. in sounds terms, well that depends on how your gain is set, and how your sound settings are. and if they're getting 282 rms TOTAL, not 282 a piece, try for another amp.

Saturday, January 17, 2009 - 15:22 GMT Distortion can come at any wattage. It's a clipped signal. You may not be using the subs potential but you're not hurting them either at that wattage. Just don't try to compensate by gaining the sh1t out of it or bass boosting.

Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 14:47 GMT OP, If the amplifier is set up correctly, gains set properly, and so forth, then no the subs will not distort. The problem is when people want more volume from their speakers, instead of getting a bigger amp, they crank the gains up, which causes the amp to clip, and you hear distortion, and damage the speakers.
