Hi guys I have a 15" BTL dvc one ohm sub. Right now i have two Hifonics BXi 1608D powering this sub. I have each amp hooked up to each voice coil. I have gain matched the amps and the subwoofer pounds. I want to upgrade but not sure what to go with, but i am not sure how to wire the dvc one ohm sub down or what it will ohm load it will come out to be. If you guys could help explain how to wire this and what amp would power this sub the best, i would really appreciate it. Under $900 on the budget and i only want to go with one amp.

Thanks guys,
Michael

Thanks guys for the help i really appreciate it. I have heard that you can run it down to .5 ohm if so what amps are compatible with this.

not many.... and you'd need a huge electrical to run one that is.

excepy maybe a mmats 3500.05

Are the mmats powerful and would it be better than the setup i have now?

The mmats blows the hifonics amps out of the water on build quality and would be alot more efficient that the kicker.

What does your electrical look like?

I have the big three finished and plan on getting a kinetik battery later this month.

could i run the rd with just these?

yes you could. you would have to be carefull with the voltage on extended playing times at high volumes. eventually you will need a ho alt with any large amp. the rd is one of the most effient amp around for daily playing.
i have done full power burps of a kinetik 1800 no problem.

so your saying with the big three, high output alternator, and a kinetik 1800 i would be fine running the rd 3250 at .5 ohms?

most def. that would be good. the amp is very eff. even at that ohm load.

so the mmats would be my best choice?

ms do me a favor and tell me the eff and current consuption of the rd3250 at any given ohm load please. then give me the eff of any kicker amp. and you will see they are not the same which it seems you base everything off of. if you cant answer a question properly please don't. i have alot of exp with rd equipment and i wouldn't lead someone astray just to sell some equipment. you know me better than that.

scott s thanks man how long will the rd be on sale for? i am kind of waiting on tax season to roll around but will deff buy one for 450. Just not sure if you will still have them. I have looked at Rd quite and few times and i really like what they have to offer. I just want the most out of my sub and right now i just do not think the hifonics are gettin it.

Scott I know you have a lot of experience with a lot of equipment and love RD. I can't give you those ratings since they aren't published. What I do know is amplifier efficiency drops steeply when you run an amp below its rated impedance.

I like RD also, they are great quality amps at good prices. But I would not choose them for every single application... I'd choose the right tool for the job. And IMO the mmats is the better choice here. It is designed to run at .5 ohm and to be very efficient at it.

No disrespect was meant here just arguing my case.

"I'd choose the right tool for the job"

The right TOOL for this job is M.S. :-)

I gotta get my post count up somehow around here in this repetitive forum.

Haha, I wouldn't even consider RD if I had a choice between RD and MMATS. I'd get MMATS before I purchased an RD amp even if it is a better deal as far as watts per dollar goes. How about the footprint on those MMATS amps? Pretty sick eh?

the mmats is a smaller foot print yes but the rd is more eff. we made a post earlier last year on these exact same amp. the mmats was 76% eff at .5 and the rd was 82% eff at .5

Scott, you tested the amps yourself right? I remember you making a post about using a clamp meter, I think...anyhow, was the same method used to test the MMATS vs. the RD? Same charging or power supply? Tested at the same frequency and ohm load? Same exact environment? Some companies rate their products MUCH differently. Some have methods that would favor them to show better performance. I'm not saying RD does that in their methods of testing, I'm just asking.

Let's just say the MMATS isn't as efficient, I'd still buy the MMATS over that RD any day.

These amps are VERY similar but the Atomic actually shows better performance over the RD. The Atomic also has a slightly bigger footprint but not by much, roughly 2 inches in width. Here's another picture of the RD 3250 and the Atomic 3k:
