About a year ago I purchased a JVC KD-HD1 (I think that's what it was) at Circuit City, complete with a Sirius satellite radio tuner and a full installation.
Shortly after it was installed, the Sirius service dropped off -- it wasn't available as a source. So I took the car back to Circuit City. They checked everything, and by some stroke of luck, it starting working again.
A few weeks later, same scenario -- all of a sudden, Sirius was missing. Again, I took the car back, and again the unit was reset. Or fixed somehow.
It happened a third time, so the head unit I purchased was switched out to a new KD-HDR30 by the Circuit City crew.
That seemed to have solved the problem, but about two months later, it happened AGAIN. But this time, the head unit produced an error code: "Reset 8." Apparently, that's a wiring problem, according to the JVC website.
In all, it's happened SEVEN times in the past 11 months, the most recent occurrence about a week ago.
Each time, I have to take the car back to Circuit City, where they claim the problem is with the product design, not their installation. They claim that nothing became disconnected, in direct conflict to what the error code means. And of course, they won't try any new products unless I pay for them. They're happy to pull the head unit, disconnect the Sirius wiring, re-connect it, and send me on my way, but only as long as the equipment is under warranty.
So, with the unit's warranty expiring shortly, and with it still being a total inconvenience whenever it fails, what should I do? Between the head unit and tuner, I've invested about $350, and I hate to abandon that.
I'd like to either get a full refund so I can start over with a different setup, or get equipment that actually works.
I already know how this will probably go: JVC will say I need to work with Circuit City, because Circuit City already says I need to work with JVC.
The bottom line is that I've paid a lot for a defective product, I can't get a refund, I can't get replacement products, and I've spent a lot of needless time in the shop.
I feel totally ripped off. Does anyone have any morsels of advice?
if you really wanna get in there to fix it, go on the JVC website and find out what the wiring problem is, and find the wiring diagram so you know exactly which wire it is, then go in and put it together right. if not go on google and type in your problem and see if anyone else has had that problem before and how they resolved it, if you dont want to take everything apart i would go back and make quite an argument, call customer service if you have to and complain because they seem to notice your problem a little bit more if you complain about theyre service. i had a friend do that before lol
