I was wondering which alt would be better for the price and for my system?
I'm looking at a 220 amp alt from DB electrical and a 300 amp alt not from DB electrical.
The 220 amp alt is chrome and is going for $259 + $15 S&H Total: $274
The 300 amp alt is polished aluminum and is going for $329 + $29 S&H and the guy said if i want it chrome it will be an extra $139 Total: W/O chrome $358 Total: W/chrome $497
i dont know if i want to throw down 4-5 hundred dollars on an alt
i'll be putting a D34/78 yellow top optima under the hood and an HC800 kinetik in the back and for amps i have a 650 watt Zapco amp and a ZX2500.1 kicker mono amp.
which alt is the best for the price...i prefer chrome because i have a '71 chevelle and want it to look nice under the hood!!! =]
The 300 amp alt is from Iraggi Alternator and Electronics. I was reading other posts on alts and i read that almost by fat DB was favored over Iraggi but wasn't sure in my situation with the prices i have considering i didn't see any prices on the other thread
I have three mechman alts in my tahoe and i am very impressed.
I am running 10k and they keep my voltage up. I played my system at a show this weekend for two days and played it for 4+ hours each day full tilt and my voltage never dropped below 13volts.
Ok I'll check up on Mechman to see if they have anything to fit my application (1979 chevy 454 7.4L) and if not then I will go with DB.
Would 220 amps be sufficient or would I want to look for a little more powerful alt like 250-300 amps if Mechman or DB makes them for my engine? Considering the amps I have and the amount of amps each pull.
