Can someone provide some info on this for me please.
I'm running SPL setup, 2 DVC 12inch subs and about 5-6000rms running to subs. Currently using some 8g power cable to them.
However I'm doubting whether thats good enough. Reason being is that all the big brands, RF,Kicker,Streetwirez etc etc etc all use nothing bigger than 12g "speaker" wire, and not "power" cable.
If using power cable, even if 12g or 8g instead of proper "speaker" cable, is this to my detriment?
I use 8guage for anything more than 1000 rms. I don't know if it's stinger or tsunami or what, but for speaker wire I wouldn't sweat the strand count too much.
Something about electrons moving faster/more efficiently over the strands. More surface area of wire equals better flow or something something something.......
"More surface area of wire equals better flow or something something something......."
DC current runs on the surface area of wires, which is one reason for high strand counts. AC runs in the core and that's partially why our houses have solid copper wire.
As for the speaker wire size, you wont have a problem with 12 gauge but I always feel better using 8 gauge lol. I wouldn't go out and buy 8 gauge just for that, but I'll use it whenever I've got a bunch laying around.
