This problem may exist with other similar units as well. About a week ago my drive would not keep a CD inserted. It would eject it once it went all the way in. Finally after 2 or three tries it would take it and play as normal. Then a few days later when putting a CD in it seemed to be hitting something on the inside. I decided to open it and see it maybe a gear or belt had slipped. Unfortunately this was not the case. It appears that there is a hinge on the back of the clamp that holds the CD in place that has broken. This unit was purchased on Mar 07 and has just went out of warranty. The CD was hitting the clamp that was not all the way up due to the broken hinge. My unit has seen normal use with an on average insertion and eject cycle once a day. I initially only used my iPod. I wanted to post a heads up to anyone else who may be experiencing problems, and I am open to suggestions for what to do. This shows what the caddy looks like. The red writing and line shows what the CD was hitting while being inserted. The yellow writing is where the problem is located. This shows the broken area as looking from the top of the CD unit. This is what it looks like from the back. |
