IIRC, I first saw this on Audiobahn models, along with Power Acoustik and some other cheaper brands. Now I see them in almost every product lineup (Diamond Audio, RE, etc). Common sense tells me that the larger the surround, the less cone surface area which isn't a good thing. Are there any advantages to these giant surrounds? I realize that a large surround can help with long xmax applications, but I've seen other surrounds that look to achieve the same thing without sacrificing cone area. Case in point: http://www.poweracoustik.com/pa2006/images/PRODUCT/ADUIO/SW/mofo3.jpg Perhaps a better solution: http://www.poweracoustik.com/pa2006/images/PRODUCT/ADUIO/SW/FX-10W.jpg I'm using the PA images for reference only, not comparing or suggesting using these woofers in any way. What do you think? |
