Shops will lie to you to make a sale. It has really hurt the industry as a whole because so many people just getting into audio are getting waves of bad information and then they regurgitate it on to others only spreading it farther.
yeah i have to agree with yanks. the alpha definately sounds better. as for output i can't comment cause my 9512 was seeing 2700wrms and the alpha was only seeing 1000wrms.
The standard Alpha with dual spiders will get very loud and sound great. We had two diffrent guys break a 160 on the termlab with them this year.
One had two 15" in a wall with 8k and the other did a 162.9 in a pro stock class with three 15" and four 2000 watt amps.
If it is daily but want to get loud it will work great. If you want more SPL then we have a version that uses a flat wind coil, It still sounds good but more geared for SPL.

Denim is correct. Shops tend to say anything that boasts there products and cut the others down very quickly. Sometimes with no first hand knowledge. To me it is not a good sales tactic at all.
I owned two shops for years so i know how the retail game is played. LOL, Sometimes a shop will bash a name hard then six months later be selling it as there top line and then its the greatest thing in the world. It's funny like that.
But if a shop sells the product and tells you things most likely it is from first hand that they are giving you their opinion.
shops do lie. i didnt know much on brands especially all these new brands coming out until i came across this forum and learned a lot. There is a shop were i live called, (all for show) thats sell and claims that performance tech. is the sH!t.
This would be more compariable from those two companys.

"shops do lie."
Yes they do,so do some research on the forums before you step foot in a CA shop. But then again if you do your reseach you most likely won't be going going to a CA shop for you equitment.
There are some great shops but few and far between.

Do you still have those 2 AQ SD2.5 15's?
If so are you looking to get rid of them?
A friend has 2 SD2.5 15" on a Crossfire VR1000D,and looking for 2 more for his new Kicker ZX2500.1 for his astro.
It's not that you can't tune a 9515 under 40 hz..... it's just not a real good idea. I have one tuned around 38+ hz. That sub does not have a lot of low end output, and tuning it low causes loss of output in the higher frequencies and not much gain in the lower.
Disclaimer, I have only ever had mine tuned at 38 so that is not first hand experience. It's what I was told by some guys on the DD forum who have pretty much tried every imaginable install with those subs.
MS what the hell are you talking about man. I don't know who told told you this stuff but I've tuned HUNDREDS of DD's below 40hz and their output is phenomenal.
Why the hell do people keep saying DD's arent good sounding subs and they cant take low frequencies? Thats the most ignorant thing I've heard in a long time.
As for the RD's, I cant speak much on them because I dont have much experience with them but many of my close friends that compete at world class levels use them and LOVE them so if that tells ya anything haha.
If it came down to which sub I'd use for overall SPL and money wasnt a factor I'd go with the Z series DD, hands down the baddest commercially available sub on the planet to date.
I have tuned 500's, 1500', 2500's, 3500's, and 9500's to 33-38hz and got great results.
Cory's 6 1512's tuned to 36hz sound great...and do 147's at 35hz w/ an M3. My 3515's sounded great at 35hz were mean, and clean. We have a customer w/ 2 2515's tuned to 36hz on an M2 in a Suburban that couldn't be happier (he has sent quite a few people our way).
Like Zac, I don't know where the "DD's don't sound good tuned low" thing came from. Maybe its just a misconception because DD's site says tune to 40hz. Hell, Memphis recommmends 45hz...and one of Kickers recommended boxes is 42hz.
I always tune for the vehicle and customers needs.
The DD Box In order to get the most performance from these non-optimum applications we have taken a different approach. We keep the moving mass low, energy high and add a suspension with high restoring force to help control cone motion. This means that the subs will not have to rely on the box for their loading.
The vehicle itself will offer some loading to the system, and the transfer function will make the system play an octave lower than the tuning freq. So, if you could find some speakers that could stay in control below the box tuning, subs that are really tuned to the box loading plus the car loading, you could design a system to play low. loud and do it in a relatively small box. That is what we designed and spent many years developing.
The DD box system provides great bass AND high efficiency from small spaces. We wanted to make great bass possible for anyone, even if there wasn't much space available. We set about designing subs to maximize the available airspace.
Each Sub Series we make is designed to work in the DD Boxes. Each size sub in the series is designed for the same response. They all get the same motor, the same spiders, suspension throw and power handling. The 10 inch size will play just like the 15, but do it in a much smaller space.

x10000 I once had my old 9515 in a 4cuft box tuned @ 34hz and it sounded fantastic off a RD 1750.1
Tomorrow it's going in another box tuned to 35hz in a toyota truck.
