New member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 4 Registered: Jul-08 | I posted a thread earlier and you guys said that a 5 channel amp would work the best. What amp or brand do you reccomend. Just trying to choose the best one. The sub 250 watts nominial power and 1000 watts max. The other 4 speakers are 160 watts peak power in the back and 80 watts peak in the front. |
Silver Member Username: Neptune07Grand Junction/Golden, CO Post Number: 133 Registered: Jun-08 | i myself have never dealt with a 5-channel amp myself but we will need to know the RMS wattage of your speakers because peak power is usually a made up number that companies will throw out there to make it sound like the speakers can take more power than they are actually rated at. |
New member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 5 Registered: Jul-08 | Would you recomend a 4 channel then? Sorry i couldn't find the rms on these. Maybe you can see it. Silver Member Username: Neptune07Grand Junction/Golden, CO Post Number: 135 Registered: Jun-08 | if i were you i would pass on an amp for the speakers because they shouldn't need it. what type of car do you have? here are a couple amps that put out around 250w RMS @ 4ohms that you may consider. they are also 2 ohm stable so if you ever decide to upgrade your subwoofer to an Alpine Type R for example then it would give you enough power at 2 ohms to do so http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19251 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19066 |
New member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 7 Registered: Jul-08 | IT's actually a 1992 mazda B2600I. I'm going to eventually upgrade the speakers. |
Silver Member Username: Neptune07Grand Junction/Golden, CO Post Number: 136 Registered: Jun-08 | until you upgrade the speakers don't waste buying an amp for the ones you currently have |
New member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 9 Registered: Jul-08 | So what do you recomend then? |
Silver Member Username: Neptune07Grand Junction/Golden, CO Post Number: 137 Registered: Jun-08 | buy one of the amps i mentioned earlier for your sub |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 10055 Registered: Jun-04 | Why not run an amp for the highs too they will sound better. A 5 channel will give you control on the power to the fronts and the rears because there are individual gains and a three channel will only have one gain with no control to balance the power output. Stick with the 5 channel we recommended. That kicker kx 700.5 will put out 40 x 4 at 4 ohms and 210 x 1 at 4 ohms which is twice the power so youll have clean power for your highs. Your headunits true power is no more than about 20 watts rms (true power) per channel. |

New member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 10 Registered: Jul-08 | What brand besides kicker has a good 5 channel amp for about $350-400 maybe $450 |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 10056 Registered: Jun-04 | ill look but in case you change your mind heres a kicker 700.5 at $181.94 shipped but it has a lot of time left. http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-KX-700-5-5-CHANNEL-POWER-AMPLIFIER-CLASS-D-NR_W0QQite mZ140254075811QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140254075811&_trkparms=72%3A134|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318 And another at 209.94 shipped with the buy it now option at that price but its refurbished and they are supposed to still look brand new. http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-ZX700-5-5-CHANNEL-CAR-AUDIO-AMPLIFIER-STEREO-AMP_W0QQitemZ220262794847QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220262794847&_trkparms=72%3A134|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318 |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 10057 Registered: Jun-04 | ok I looked and unless you want to double the price for this alpine pdx-5 $389.80 shipped (75x4 and 300x1) there isnt anything better on ebay. Both brands are built just as good but one puts out more power in the sub section and almost twice the power to the highs. If it was me id stick with the kicker amp. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ALPINE-PDX-5-CLASS-D-5-3-CHANNEL-AMP-CAR-AMPLIFIER_W0QQitemZ190241188324QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190241188324&_trkparms=72%3A134|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318 |

Silver Member Username: QslimmsSwanton, Oh Usa Post Number: 191 Registered: Mar-06 | dont even use rear speakers,a lot of people don't.thats just my opinion |
Bronze Member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 14 Registered: Jul-08 | Why not? |
Silver Member Username: QslimmsSwanton, Oh Usa Post Number: 194 Registered: Mar-06 | me personally i dont run them cuz i sit in the front so i dont worry about the back plus it creates a better sound with just fronts instead of front and back |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 8074 Registered: Jul-06 | All rear speakers can do is subtract from the sound quality. Take a look at an SQ competition vehicle and guess what you won't see. |
Silver Member Username: QslimmsSwanton, Oh Usa Post Number: 195 Registered: Mar-06 | thanks M.S. thats what i was trying to say but wording it wrong |
Bronze Member Username: Pthekiller05Post Number: 15 Registered: Jul-08 | I already bought the 5 channel amp though. |
Platinum Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 10070 Registered: Jun-04 | I told him to buy the 5 channel because he said he wanted to power two sets of highs. You can still run just fronts if you want but you might find you want some rear fill. Buy a set of these cdt 6.5 components if you have room and see how you want to set it up. These cdt components are nice. My brother just bought a pair and they have very good midbass and a decent tweeter. They arent the softest tweeters but they sound pretty good. They are 99.99 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/CDT-Audio-CL-S60A-TW-25-6-5-2-Way-Component-Speakers_W0QQitemZ120289016529QQihZ002QQcategoryZ32819QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |
