My buddy is on a tight budget and this amp is in his range for cash and power. He needs 2krms but can only run the subs @ 2ohm or .5 so I am wondering how this amp handles the load?
I spoke with the guys at AudioQue and they said it's not covered under warranty when ran below 1ohm but some people run them at that 1/2 ohm load.
How stable are they? This will also be a stock set and I told him that 2200rms+ is going to cause some dimming....etc
"I agree but I think you should read before you post........lol"
i'd call and ask them again if it's possible, just not if covered by warranty. and i bet the people who run them at .5ohm have a proper charging system also, so i'd tell your friend to forget it until he upgrades his alt.
"Michael many endusers run the amp at .5 but it's not possible for me to tell you that everyone can. If the impedance rise is high it's possible. Even though the amp will run at .5 in some cases it will always stress the amp"
I guess he can just run it at a 2ohm load or something then as that amp is very reasonable for the price I might even grab one or two to sell locally or something.
usually if u run a amp at below it rec ohm u only do it for sort periods like burps so i wouldn't even want to try that for daily use even if ur electrical upgraded ...
I run my 5750.1 at 1/2ohm daily, she works fine on a stock system (well big 3). Still have to put my HO alt in though....
Yeah I will tell him to do a 2ohm load for 1,300rms and not to be retarded with the volume or gains. I'm pretty sure he knows nothing about stereo systems (step sister boyfriend) as I was talking to him about the ohm loads he could get with the subs and he didn't even know what I was talking about....
The only time I crank my stereo is when I compete and I have a constant voltage read and when I listen to my music daily I never drop unless I am @ idle and it still sits at about 12.6v when stopped at say a red light, and this is a very generous volume.
Of course if I crank it for daily I'm going to dip below 12v but I'm not a retard that bumps music 24/7 when I drive around town doing loser laps.
So yeah, my stereo is made to be mainly in Street B (else I would have an extra battery) and the 601-1800 USACI class. I am restricted to the battery in DB drag to a Standard 800 in^3 battery so in USACI (up to batteries) I only run one as I can have my car running in USACI so the Ho alt comes in handy for those events.
I don't get the whole "Big Bang on a Budget" question...If you can't afford a huge system why not just start out small or by it one piece at a time? The parts are all over the place you just gotta know what a good price is.
Well this guy is 18 I believe and I barely know him, I just sold him my old 2x12" Premier 300SPLS and he's dating my 15 yr old stepsister...lol
But he just wants a large amp to power the subs and seeing as how it's not my money I can't tell him how to spend it, I can only help him in a better direction. I told him about the electrical stuff (caps=bad..etc), big 3...etc and I pretty much know that when he goes to get it all installed some douche is going to get him to buy a cap, and he probably will.
I have heard amazing things about the AudioQue amps and they are damn cheap. For Example, one of my friends did not seek me for help and he ended up buying a 800rms clarion amp for $600 as he was getting a "sweet" deal from the guys at Andreas......
i watched two new AQ 12s and one AQ 2200d @ .5ohm burp a 149.3dB last night.. pretty nice equipment.. be nice to see what it does when he straps a pair
I hope to break 147db when my alphas arrive as I did that score when my car was running, no big 3 at the time, earthquake amp(lol), HO alt and the TL was in a metal ball USACI style on the passenger side floor, and I have my subs in the trunk, no hatch back for me.
for some reason i've noticed the suvs local are louder on the meter with sub(s) firing forward and ports up.. normally everyone says sub up and port back.. thats not the case anymore
My new box (still have to test it out) is subs forward port forward. The port run down the middle of the box with the subs on either side.
My other box is a triangle that had subs and ports firing backwards.
So Iam going to drop the Alpahs into my "new" box and see what happens as I don't have enough juice for my EliteSpls as they barely move and I did a 144.9db with the Car on and TL in dbdrag location.
My buddy has a 15" L7 with the sub up and the port firing back and he did a 144.2 I believe so it wasn't too bad. Even though him and his dad built the box in about 3 hours...lol
It was actually 11.x something (10.8v @ the deck and 11.4v I believe at the battery) I know it's not great but what can you really expect when you can't run your car and can't fit a deep cycle...it does suck..lol
(14.5v) 144.9db car running (13.3v) 144.3db car off, 3 sec burp, then dip to 11.4v
