I am having a damn hard time finding what size alternator is stock on my car.
Reason being is I will be getting a new HO alt soon but I am not going with a 200a alt as there is too much torque and it causes the belt to slip and squeal and it sounds like junk. Plus when I come to an idle it starts to squeal again....bad stuff
So I will be going with either a 140a or 160a alt I'm just not sure which one to go for as I do not want the squealing to happen and 140a is better than 80-100a.
I thought about (as they have a 200a) but even the MCR guy said that a 200a will require way more torque to get going and belt slipping would probably still occur.
I went down to a local alt rebuilding/electric store and they told me the same thing about having such a huge alt as they take some power to get going.
Well the 160 will do ok if you're not running a lot of power.
My 200 amp alt works just fine. And I know plently of other people with 200 amps. Hell they even make 300 amp for some vehicles but not many.
Bottom line if it's slipping something is wrong. Could be a bad alt but more often than not it's b/c somebody put in an alt with a smaller pulley than stock and didn't use a shorter belt.
