My alternator can't handle much more than 500 watts, so anything more powerful is out of the question.(I don't want to have to add a HO alternator)
Is there anything that will sound better/ hit harder than this sub and amp, for the same, or less money?

Also if i go with this, is the manufacture ported box design the best overall design?

and yes if you get the High Output 10w7 that'd be your best bet, but if not, JL offers a free box design that offers you optimal performance

High output is a box thats JL sells, not the sub.

And yes they are worth it :-)

Why is the continuous power different for the sub and for the high output sub? Does the box help keep it cool?

If i just put it in a ported box can i safely run it at 750?
