Front Stage Options

This summer I'll be upgrading my front stage to something better. Right now I have Crystal CPe components, and honestly, I think they are pretty nice for the price of $100. With that said, in some of the louder songs I listen to, the bass from the Mag drowns out my front stage so I want something that can hold its own. I'm leading my car in a direction geared towards SQ/SQL so I need some suggestions on some real nice and smooth sounding components. I don't have a budget right now but if I had to make one, I'd set the limit at about $500. I would like to run anywhere from 100-150rms to each speaker so that would be the rough power range. I have not chosen my new amp yet as that will be dependent on the components I choose.

Anyone have any good suggestions for me to look at?
Some of the ones I've been looking at so far include:
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1141
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1164
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2975
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1182
(^are these the JBL components everyone was raging about a few weeks back??)
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1138

And there are some other ones I've looked at but are unsure of and didn't want to post up here and clutter my post even more lol.

Anyone have any other component speakers I should be looking at?

Also I don't know much about a 3-way set-up but would that yield a better sounding front stage or should I just stick with a 2-way and keep it simple?

Yanks, If you wanna run a 3 way Id go with Hertz hi-energy 163 system. I can get them for you around your price range shipped.

http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/Doc/pdf_hsk163.pdf

Out of the ones you listed above i would go with the Dyns or JBLs.

Its my understanding that I would need to build/buy kick pods for a 3-way system. As much as I would like to, I don't know if I would be allowed to do any mods to the doors because of m parents (they own/pay for the car). Is there anyway I could get around not having to mod my door and run a 3 way set-up? I don't know too much about 3 way set-ups.

Yanks you should stick with a 2-way.

I owned the CDT Audio HD 62 set, I loved the mids but the tweeters (DRT-25 silk) didn't cut it out for me.

My suggestions are Focal K2P, Pioneer 720 PRS and Dynaudio System 240 GT.

I'm getting a new set soon so I'll let you know what I pick and how they sound.

The amp I have is a JL Audio 300/2v2, very nice amp. I noticed a big sound difference when going from an eD nine.2x to the JL Audio 300/2v2 even though the eD did over 225 watts vs JL's 150, the JL was just as loud and sounded much better.

That's the set Yanks. You said you wanted smooth, if there's one word to describe the HD-6 mid and DRT-25 tweeter that's it.

Unless you're going to run active, I suggest you upgrade the crossover to the 560. It has a different x-over point that gives it a better sound.

The only reason I haven't upgraded mine yet is im debating running active or not.

I have not looked at ID comps actually. I'll take a look into them now though.

MS, honestly, I don't know enough about running active vs. passive to know which one I should do. After just doing a little reading on passive vs active over on CA, it seems like going active is a lot of work and takes a bunch of time to get things right. I would like to run active but it just seems too much for me to handle. I'll probably just stick with running passive.

those ids' are extremely nice. one of the best sounding tweeters i've ever heard. nice and warm, not harsh at all. nice midbass also. definately as good if not better as some other companies comp. sets that cost more.

Sorry to hear that Steven. Maybe it just wanted you to post something lol.

CtMike, thanks for the input on those. I completely overlooked the ID comps for no reason at all. Just kinda slipped my mind I guess.

I think I'm really leaning towards the JBL's right now. I've read some reviews on them and they seem quite nice. And the price tag is friendly lol.

How much power should I give these comps? 150? 200? 200+?
Right now, I'm looking at either the JL 300/2 and give them 150 each or the JBL PX600.2 and give them 180 each. Comments? Recommendations?

the dls destroys the focal yanks. i had the utopias and the dls destroys it.

anways out of the choices up there, i'd go with the dynaudio. that is if you are like me and don't like loud tweeters cause you won't get those with the dynaudio. thats what the sales guy told me about them.

Hwx FTW. I love mine. The tweets are so crisp and colorful and the speakers just love any kind of music you throw at them.

nah just run ~200 and they will sound nice. The midbass could best be described and crisp as well. seems like they are made for blending into the substage because the midbass is not overwhelming at all... the tweets are so nice though.

Midbass is 90% dependant on installation. Using the same speakers, someone who does a proper installation will have drastically better results than someone who just sticks the speaker in their door.
