"You'll get comments on the wire in the port ya know but to each his own."
Yea because it looks like complete sh1t! It doesn't take much to drill a tiny hole in the box and seal it up but eh...nice work on the box though. Make sure that amp is bolted down or held in place by something.
tomarrow we are drilling a hole through the back of the box and putting the wire through that but the store was closed today so we couldnt get sealent so i jsut did it this way to test it out
as for the amp its great. i have no complaints with it. on the subwoofer control knob that comes with it there is even a clipping light which comes on when it clipped dont know how accurate it is but it seems cool none the less
the sub sounds decient. im not sure if its the box or something else but its not nearly as loud as i expected. Ive got another firend with a 15" type-r that is jsut about as loud. tomarrow im taking the sub out of the box and double checking everything but for how much power the sub is getting and the fact its a BTL i expected much more. i set the gain with a dmm and all the settings are correct so im not sure whats up. but ill keep you updated.
I thought I read somewhere that BTL's dont really come alive until they break in. Don't know if thats helps any. (I guess most subs get louder once broke in, but the BTL's might just be a little more stubborn til' then.)
ya i figured he was. i really want to carpet a box sometime but i dont have any materials needed or the knoledge. i really wanted to carpet my current box in shag lol. but i think my next box that im making this sumemr for my xxx's im gunna try carpeting.
well he spary painted it and the paint dripped so he tryed to dab it off with a paper towel which made it worse and spread it around then he tryed to scrap it off and that didnt help anything then he jsut painted over and you get what you see haha
When you drill the hole for the wire, try hot-glue to seal it. Works wonders and dries near instantly.
Not to be an a22, but... Anyone else find it funny when people wire a mono amp so it looks like its a bridged 2ch? I loled lil at that one, prolly because I see it at the shop all the time. People w/ pairs of subs twisting the wires together and wiring mono amps to they look bridged
chad how loud were your btl's compaired to other subs. becuase his 15" btl isnt nearly as loud as i expected and a 15" type-r is jsut about the same. so you think its the box or could something else be wrong
I switched from a 15" Kicker L7 on a bxi2006d to an 18" BTL on the same amp and the difference was night and day (more so than just cone area imo). I'd run the port at the bottom of the box, and give it a bit more area. Since you really aren't pushing it hard, why not do the box 5 ft net and 80 (the most recommended for that size airspace) or more sq of port. Also, often times a square port will have better results than an rectangle, but if you can make it less oblong you should benefit.
I made a box for my btl in my yukon that looked like this:
Not much later I made one that looked like one of the two you see below:
When I switched to the box design with the port on the bottom I noticed a nice audible difference, and a few db jump on the mic. Dont forget to brace too btw.
I've never seen an install with the port runnin on the bottom go wrong. If you can get your box to be like Troy's, you'd be straight because that install he showed absolutely wanged. Rattled the shop I was workin at like nothing else that first time he pulled up
I know you were the FIRST person around here to hear 'Fi BTLs' and know what I was talking about (hell the last too). It was as loud as my current setup is on 1 amp You commented on the gank look of it all, but it was so much easier to be able to take 1 box out when I needed to carry stuff for work.
thanks but i already designed one. I stuck the BTL in my box for my 9515 today and it sounded great. My box is 4ft^3 net and tuned at 38.5hz so i made another box thats the same style as mine just 4.6ft^3 net and tuned at 33hz
thanks for the offer though.
the box i designed is:
4.6ft^3 net 33hz 70sq port the port is 4" tall and 17.5" wide
