I got quoted $400 for a 200 amp alt from motor city reman, and $430 from mean green...are these good prices? Any way I could get one cheaper??? In need of one, but don't want to pay out the a$s for it.

you could get one cheaper, but it may mean getting one of lesser quality.

If MCR quoted you $400, that's about the best you're going to do for a GOOD quality HO alt. (Think not Iraggi or EA)

well, i guess, would it be worth it to buy one? running ~2k wrms...

also, will be a biitch to install, anyone know how to install one on a '98 jetta(mk 3)? It seems like you'd have to take part of the engine apart just to get to it...

is there any big difference between the quality/features/watev of MCR and mean green? like, would it be worth $30 more for the mean green, or is it about the same?

i was told HO didn't make one for my car that's more than 140 Amps...my stock one is 120, so no big difference. (unless you cusom wire/fit it, and that would cost a $hitload)

M.S...."Ohio will be more expensive. DB or MCR is the cheapest place your going to get a GOOD HO alt."

M.S. from what I remember mcr had the least idle amperage and then db was the next to highest idle amperage ...mcr was 85 to 95 amps I believe and for my car and db's idle amperage was 105 amps on a ho alt for my car with a 200 amp alt so its something to consider if thats the case for his car

MCR's site says that their 200 amp units will put out 90-100 amps at idle...so yea, sean, thats about right^
