SX Motor Recone Question

SX motor is 3" gap for the coil.. only way to use a 2.5" coil is a different motor

What I mean is but a coil/former and spider complete with no cone, buy an 8" cone and cut out a hole big enough for the former to fit through the cone, and then of course just trim the spider to fit whatever basket you use?

You won't get much travel out of it.
