Im about to start building a box for a friend and hes getting an 18" FI Q. He wants it o be 8cu ft at 28hz... Hes looking for SQL that hits hard. What would you suggest for that box? I was thinking 32-34 but I have never messed w/ the Q. FI reccomends 28Hz but that sounds low. Any input? Thanks

I would do what the manufacturer recommends, that is usually what works best.

28 hz is low but not unheard of for car audio, especially for an SQ sub like the Q.

Do they suggest that for straight SQ or SQL?

I know people up here have them. What do you have them tuned to?

I did 32 Hz for my Q and it still destroyed the lows. I wonder how it woudl have been @ 28 Hz....

I say shoot for something in the middle

The size of the sub matters...... if Fi says 28 for the 18" then do 28

Id do 28-30, whatever suits the buld easiest. It is an SQ sub so it was designed to sound best tuned lower. And as far as SPL, it's an 18 with 1000 watts on it, I'd hope it had some thump :-)

REVive this thread my email i got from scott

The T1000 seems to bench out at 1400 or so Watts... which is about where the BP option comes in handy. If you have things setup correctly you can probably get away without it... or if you are really hard on systems and push them all day, it would be a wise choice.

Thanks,
Scott

yeah i hear ya.... i think i might stick with 28hz...... i like low end.... but when i put it in win isd.... it gave me a curver that pretty good..... but whats the BP option...... doesnt it give an extra 400-500 watts or so???? do i need it for my T1000??

Sales Fi Car Audio <sales@ficaraudio.com> wrote: At 32Hz you get a bigger hump in the 35-50 range, Id rather tune it lower and deeper for a flatter response overall and a fatter bottom octave. Definitely personal preference... as we do have people that swear by a 45+Hz tuning for daily. I like things lower and deeper. It will still have a very solid mid to it as well.

Thanks,
Scott

Rf T1000bd stock elec so around 1.2k or so i beilive...... but i cant fit 12 cubes now i found out...... i want to be able to see out of my window and that will call for a taller box....

my next quetstion will it be a bad idea to tune it to 32hz.... 10 cubes

or just stick with 28hz..... but i now it will be a large increase in DB with a higher tuning....

i guess its just personal preference....

With 12cuft tuned to 28Hz you will have a real strong bottom end with a bump in the 30-40 range as well. How much power do you have for it?

Thanks and have a good weekend,
