how do they work, do i just simply put the RCA's into them or do i have to wire each speaker and sub to them?

in order to have an EQ, yes they are usually all RCA inputs. so all of your speakers would have to be run by an amp. some older EQ's have inputs for speaker wire, but i havent seen many lately.
