Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 17:42 GMT im going to be putting a full wood sheet instead of a metal one on my back panal, im lookin at wood now on the home depot web sit these are the different woods they have listed: Lauan Plywood Birch Plywood Oak Plywood Birch Hardwood Plywood MDF 5Ply Oak Plywood Standard Hardwood Lauan Hardwood Plywood Maple Hardwood Plywood Keep inmind this is for ONE peice of the box, so all i need is just the strongest of those, it will be covered with the carpet thats already on there so i just need to know what the best wood would be

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 18:22 GMT depends on the sub if its a small sub 1/2 could be fine but if its big you may need to even double baffle the 3/4

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 18:58 GMT I would just use 3/4" MDF unless you are using the wood for something else besides a box. 3/4" MDF would be plenty strong for that setup

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 20:53 GMT Half inch would work with bracing. How big will the biggest side be? And fiberglass wouldnt add too much strength to it. Fiberglass is strongest where it is curved/bent

Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 22:17 GMT well im guessing ( havn't taken measurments yet) that its about 2 ft by maybe 3 feet ish? so the wood won't be very big

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 - 04:36 GMT 2x3 will be fine with 1/2" if you brace it. Might not need it but it wont hurt.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 - 19:52 GMT Strongest or densest? There is a difference. Strongest is going to have to be OSB (orientated strand board) this stuff when coated with epoxy will not need bracing. My External port TCAB box was made out of that, just not as dense as MDF... Polo.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 - 19:59 GMT OSB... Reason being it is made up of multiple layers of wood strands orientated in different patterns to overlap, then resin is added along with a healthy dose of pressure, extremely strong and no flex that is the builing material of choice for homes. Birch you will need at least a 11-13 ply for enclosures then you need bracing. Polo.
