what is

dy/dx of

x^2+y^2=square root of 7

dy/dx of y^2 is 2x, but what is dy/dx of y^2??? and how do you solve this whole thing

if I remember correctly

2x + 2y(dy/dx) = (1/2)7^-(1/2) or (7/2)^-(1/2)

but it's been a while and that may be completely wrong

nahhh haha thats wrong..kind of on the right track

the regular rules of dy/dx only apply when x is your variable...

when y is in there you do something different..

dy/dx is a synonym for f'(x)

so I think it's just asking for the derivative of the whole thing... therefore...

f(x) = x^2+y^2= 7^ .5
f'(x) = 2x + 2y = .5 7^ -.5

(x^.5 = x^1/2 = square root x)

hope this helps, and it correct would be helpful to see the book and know what context the question is in, i.e. what type of derivatives your working on.

Try Cramster, it has pretty much all the odd problems worked out for alot of calc textbooks

Good Luck

^d@mn, I was wrong with the "2y(dy/dx)"

but what Mike Jones posted has to be right

again, it would helpful to see an example or the book
