constantly taking my front passenger in and out, i managed to strip a couple of bolts that mount the seat to the floor.

well not only did the bolts strip but the hole the bolts go in to stripped as well.

i need to re-thread it bigger. what kinda drill bit can i use to do this?

yes sir brads got it. and sometimes you need a bit a hair smaller then the tap. and usually if you go to a store that sells taps they can give you the recommended bit size as well. but in a lot of cases a bit isnt required.and tap fluid isnt a bad idea either. or any lube.

Yeah that's true in some cases but he is dealing with auto body metal which is fairly soft so he just needs to tap up a size or two and get some matching bolts. Make sure you go slow and steady and keep the tap straight up.

well the metal ain't that soft. its the part that holds the seat to the floor so its pretty thick.

also the bolt that bolts the seat down is around 3/4.

and yes, Brads TMFM whatever that is. hope it means something good. lol.

The tap is made out of high carbon steel which is among the hardest types made. It will cut through auto body metal like butter. If you need to, use some oil or WD40 and drill a pilot hole like Hunter said. What I meant by "fairly soft" is compared to some tapping jobs... like at my old engineering job where I would drill and tap holes in stainless and hardened plate steel. When the steel you are tapping is really hard, you need to use special techniques to not snap the tap off, because if you do -- they are very hard to remove since they are harder then most drill bits. But like I said, auto body steel is soft and you shouldn't have much trouble at all.

You need to know the pitch of the threads to ensure the bolt will tread in... I just had to tap 14 threaded holes on (2) memphis amps that I got used. Make sure you know if its metric or standard.... You don't want to mess it up more... Also a drop of oil on the tap will hel keep the tap from getting dull and cutting good.. JMO

^^^ Yep. That's why I said for him to get a matching bolt. But it doesn't matter if they were metric or standard because he won't be using the old bolts.

Also be careful because some taps are tapered...

I understand he isn't using the old/factory bolts but you should still keep it the way the factory had it so all the bolts will be the same and so accidentally putting wrong thread bolts into the wrong wholes won't happen... Make them all the same!! It will make removal and installation faster in the future, since he said he has done it so many times!! JMO

i am just trying to make the factory hole a bit bigger so i can use a bit bigger bolt. right now 2 of the bolts just slide in. so the hole is already too big for the bolt.

I am glad it's fixed but I doubt they rebuilt it but more likely replaced it since bearings in the unit were bad causing the pulley to wobble and whine... Nice to hear its taken care of...
