OK, I've been working a lot and just had a chance to vinyl this thing yesterday. The guy helped me do the main part, and I did the port w/out him around. It's my first try at vinyl so don't be too harsh ;)

And the back where the bolt/terminals are

How it looks from the front (remember there's still a beauty panels that sits on top, so the top doesn't really matter anyway).

From the back- getting ready to replace that old 'gasket'

Vinyled and put in

^^^ Looking back at that picture, it looks like there are dimples in the vinyl- you don't see that at all. I believe those are from our hands carrying the thing in there because it's so cold the vinyl just stayed in place. It looks MUCH better than that pic (smooth like the firt pic).

Okay, so I greatstuffed the entire rear hatch (short of where there's moving parts) and put 2 layers of sound deadener.

And back to factory.

Now I have to:
paint the beauty panel
vinyl the little plate for the port
get button caps that match the vinyl (or paint the black ones I have)
put the wires back in
put the subs back in
and of course hooking up one temporary amp to power them all.
More pics tomarrow.

Looks good Troy. I still got to vinyl my box (I've never worked with vinyl) so it will be a learning lesson. I bet that hatch is heavy now :p

Troy, I love that your using Vinyl, it makes everything look very clean and professional.

I do see one thing that might be a problem though... How close is the port to the back hatch? From the pictures it looks like your port is around 4"-5" inches high so you need to be at least that far away from the back hatch. Maybe you have plenty of room...but from the pics its hard to tell.

Thanks for the support everyone :D

Jake papa, there's very little room. There was very little room in there before- so I think I'm ok. If I think it has a lot more potential later I'll build a smaller box that will give me the 6-7" I need. For now I have less.

There's a trim ring that I showed in the pic I still have to install on the port, but for now I'm going to hold off and see if I like this port, or the 36hz better. And which one meters better.

Twiztid I still have my 18" loaded BTLs. I just put them in there, and I have a few pics to upload. I'll get them up in about 2 hours or so- I have to run to advance. Pics then.

My camera batteries were dying by the time I had things running, so the vid. is really short. 1 amp still drops to 11.5v on test tones after about 4-5 seconds. 5 batteries later it goes to show I just need alternators

Hopefully I'll have those in by the end of next month.

Cutting the holes and wiring things up. Not that important, but time consuming so I'm throwing the pics up

Finally wiring in the subs.

Just a shot of how close the subs are to the port. About 1/8" clearance.

Almost there.

And done.

It's tough putting those things in by yourself- you have to stretch out over the box with these 60+lb subs (and barely 2 inches of clearance above it to pick it up) lol.

The batteries only let me get this much, but here's the vid:

Overall I'm not sure if I liked the 36hz tuning better, I'm just going to see how this meters, and how it does with the 4 alts. It can do a hair trick on lower notes, but nothing crazy like before (even that could've been beter). There should be 155+ on here with music from the way the power and 36hz port showed, so if I can't get that I'll be starting over.

Still have the trim plate to put on, that'll make it look much nicer once it's painted. I won't have that done for atleast a few days if not a week or so.

Hang on... What was it tuned to before?

Looks awesome, though. God, that must be loud.

^Not as loud as I'd hoped. I must've been giving them more power before because it's just not as loud. It's still moves things ok, but it was louder. I'm making sure I don't put the other 3 amps back in till I get the alts for the equipments sake.
It was tuned to 36hz btw.

<32hz. With as close as it is the back I'd say between 30-31.

It's 32hz, but the tailgate acts as an extension to an extent.

Doesn't do, I believe. Lower tuning FTW!

Doesn't. But that could be because I had 4 amps before, and I'm only running 1 now. I could easily drop the voltage down to 10.5v while playing around with it with all 4 amps in. All 4 amps had the gain turned almost all the way down with the line driver turned low.

With 1 amp turned up to actually deliver full power the voltage drops to 11.5v on test tones. I sure wasn't giving them 16,000 watts before, but I must've been giving them more than 4k.

Oh man am I missing that cargo space. I'm try with the alts, I'm going to see when I can get them all, I want to get all 4 alts and bracket at once instead of piecing it out- may get a better price that way?
