Ya know whats great, I've seen 2 merry Christmas threads on this forum and no "happy holidays" or any of that crap threads. Good too see that political correctness hasn't invaded EVERYTHING yet. Yesterday I was in home depot and the big sign said they have "holiday lights"
Regarding the debate over these two phrases I feel like this:
While this country may be predominantly christian, and founded by christians, I think it was built on the idea of being open, accepting, and accomidating to many kinds of lifestyles and beliefs.
I know that being a christian, if i lived in a mostly jewish area or something, and had people saying "happy hanukkah" to me this time of year, i wouldn't be offended, but i would feel left out, and saddened in a way that the kind words didn't really apply to me.
You know what i find sick and pathetic though? There is a group of christians currently boycotting several popular stores like The Gap, Banana Republic etc. BECAUSE they have chosen to say "happy holidays" to their customers, many of whom do not celebrate christmas, instead of "merry christmas". Like who the fu<k do these people think they are? Just because you are christian you deserve some sort of entitlement or special treatment? THAT offends me.
With all that said, i'm all for saying merry christmas to others who you know celebrate the holiday, i think it's wonderful and i do this myself. But when sharing some casual words with someone you don't know as well, or reading an advertisement or w/e from a business, why be offended that the kind words weren't specific to your holiday?
Hope i don't offend or upset anyone with what i've said. I respect the opinions and beliefs of anyone who has posted in this thread, or responds in the future.
