Silver Member Username: Mj23dynastySome where 12 wangin o..., The Mighty J... USA Post Number: 698 Registered: Oct-07 | Ok I'm feeling like doing something productive I want to build a amp rack. So if any1 can help I would love it ok my questions are 1. What kind of wood to use. 2. Good program for helping me do this. 3. Will the amps function correctly if there are setting at an angle facings the front of the cabin. 4. And will the amps overheat if I set them in flush in the amp rack hiding all except the top. Maybe even putting a lid over the top with hinges to open and close as I please. Any help or tips guys? |

Silver Member Username: Mj23dynastySome where 12 wangin o..., The Mighty J... USA Post Number: 700 Registered: Oct-07 | Iight I know nothing about plexi glass any1 have an idea of how expensive it is and what kinda glue and nails to use. And is there a special tool to cut plexi glass |
Bronze Member Username: Vtouch06Q-TowN, PA Post Number: 43 Registered: Nov-07 | mdf= Medium-density fiberboard, lol you should know dwight you was at woodlawn's that day i saw you, and plus thats what your box is made out of...lol |
Gold Member Username: JtownTeam Revolution, Texas Post Number: 1064 Registered: Mar-07 | did you seriously just not know what MDF is.....???? all plexi will cost you, time and lotta money |
Silver Member Username: Mj23dynastySome where 12 wangin o..., The Mighty J... USA Post Number: 701 Registered: Oct-07 | I kno but your amp rack doesn't have to be made out of what your box is. I didn't think so I thought their might be a cheaper wood to use or something or a wood tht dissapates heat better or something. I'm not tht dumb I was just thinking 2 hard |
Platinum Member Username: WingmanaliveA pic is worth 1000 posts!! Post Number: 11535 Registered: Jun-06 | Expensive? Yup. Where I bought mine: http://www.professionalplastics.com/cgi-bin/pp.pl?pgm=co_disp&func=displ&strfnbr =3&prrfnbr=100409&sesent=0,0&search_id=82085 And we've all seen this guy's install. He used wood and lighting on his amp rack and it came out well I thought. http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=18078 |

Gold Member Username: JtownTeam Revolution, Texas Post Number: 1066 Registered: Mar-07 | gawd that's a lot of wire... |
Silver Member Username: Mj23dynastySome where 12 wangin o..., The Mighty J... USA Post Number: 702 Registered: Oct-07 | Man I know what mdf is where did you get the impression tht I didn't?? I just thought something might be better for this project than plexi glass. Ok no plexiglass! Is there any fans tht would be good for this? |
Platinum Member Username: Bestmankind-apem Post Number: 15994 Registered: Oct-05 | if you want a clean looking rack, go the fiberglass route. its a lot of work but looks nice if you paint it right. unless you want your car to be all flashy, a simple amp rack that is very practical is the best route. what i mean by practical is, you can get to the settings on your amp without taking the amp out. clean up the wires very nice and you are all set. |
Gold Member Username: JtownTeam Revolution, Texas Post Number: 1068 Registered: Mar-07 | you really won't need fans unless you are just pounding the sh!t out of your equipment all the time, and you have enough room for heat to get move around and hopefully get out of the small enclosure your amp(s) will be in if you are setting it flush |
Bronze Member Username: Vtouch06Q-TowN, PiStoLvAniA Post Number: 44 Registered: Nov-07 | cuz thieves said "same 3/4 mdf, or smaller, use the scrap" and then in response to that you said "Mdf??" with question marks like you didnt know what it meant, thats what gave us the impression. lol |
Platinum Member Username: WingmanaliveA pic is worth 1000 posts!! Post Number: 11536 Registered: Jun-06 | Actually plexi is far stronger than MDF on a thickness to thickness comparison. Also FAAAAR more expensive. If you want the bling and have the jingle why not the plexi? Just be careful with the cuts. If you plan ahead have the manufacturer cut them to fit. They're pretty precise and you won't be taking any chances on your own. Do you have the greenbacks? |

Platinum Member Username: WingmanaliveA pic is worth 1000 posts!! Post Number: 11537 Registered: Jun-06 | When I ordered the plexi for my Q box I ordered a specific size and it came damn near perfect. I mean less than a 1/32-1/64th of an inch tolerance. I built my box around it instead of cutting the piece. I paid over $30 for a 1/2" thick piece 12" X 16". It's solid as a rock. |

Drill bits to drill and counter sink the screws, I like the counter sink bits as they do two jobs in one. Clamps, squares, ect...... And just one word of advice, ok maybe two, don't rush and keep a neat/safe work enviornment. |

Silver Member Username: Mj23dynastySome where 12 wangin o..., The Mighty J... USA Post Number: 708 Registered: Oct-07 | I'm just gona buy the wood and cut it for now since I alreadii have a jigsaw at home I have a whole bunch of my step dads tools at home I gota look and see what's down their since he no longer lives with us. |
Gold Member Username: JtownTeam Revolution, Texas Post Number: 1078 Registered: Mar-07 | use the circular saw to cut the big pieces, and teh jigsaw to cut the detailed/smaller pieces....countersinking prevents wood splitting and allows the screw to go in easier, plus it makes the screws sit flush. Nail gun FTW!!! |
