I just bought a 18" AA avalanche that i will be using for HT useage. I prolby use it 50% time for music and 50% of time for movies. I want to it go low.
I need to know he following:

1) What size to make the box
2) What to tune it to
3) How many square inches of port

space isnt an issue

Just a thought you could try sealed and hit whatever note you want... you know for movies that hit below 20 hz

check here for a list of movies

im powering it with an infinity plate amp 500rms but when i get more money in getting a dayton plate amp 1000rms.

when everything gets all hooked up ill make a movie of it for sure

so do you think i should do sealed or ported? i was thinking ported just becuase i htought it would get very loud in the 20-30hz range. opinions?

Thats up to you. It depends what you want out of it. But ported will be louder. I was just showing you some movies can go below 20 hz and wanted you to have a chance to set up for the thrill if you wanted to.

you can go sealed but you'll lose a lot of low end output espically wiht only 500wrms, if it was me i'd go 8cf tuned to 20hz, since most subs can go around 5-10hz under tunign with out damage and since the fs of the ava is 16hz and below that impedance rise is very high you shouldn't have to worry, although tuneing that low won't really do well on music other than rap, so rock or anything in the 60+hz range won't have much authority.

that sub is capable of doing 14hz, for HT that is AWESOME! go sealed at least 10cu/ft and throw 1000 watts at it if you can:-) for HT it doesn't matter that you can only hear to 20hz+/- it's the effect at 15hz when the whole room shakes that makes it lifelike:-) Chad used to run 2 18's in his HT set-up in a 20cu/ft enclosure sealed.
