Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 646 Registered: Jun-06 | Ok people, yesterday I just got a refund check from my college for $1900. $1000 of this money is going to paying off my car loan and $300 is going into a new Ipod for my g/f which leaves me $600 left on top of a $200 I already have saved up. Now that I have money for the amp I want, ive been having second thoughts onto if I should buy it right now or not. My reasoning for this is because I know im going to have to do the Big 3 and buy a bigger battery. Do you guys think I should just see how my car will hold up with out any electrical upgrades or should I just upgrade them right now? |

Gold Member Username: JuliobSanto DomingoDominican Re... Post Number: 4979 Registered: Dec-05 | Well joe, the best thing is to upgrade ASAP, for example, you can buy an alternator and a good amp, then save up for subs. If you get your amp, you can borrow some subs and play a lil bit |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 647 Registered: Jun-06 | I already have my subs all ready to go. There just chillin in the basement until I get my amp. I sent in a price quote request to excessiveamperage.com for a 200amp alt but, they are on vacation or something till the 22nd. The amp im going to grab is the ASA2000.1D since a few people on here wanted to see if that put out true wattage. The amp says it will put out 2000 @1ohm but, Im probably going to be seeing around 1600 if my calculations are right about PowerBass (20% overratted). Even though I don't need the battery, I think im still going to grab a new one anyway since the one I have is pretty beat. Still the stock battery from 96. Im not even sure what the CCA is on it. |

Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 651 Registered: Jun-06 | Really? who else should I look into? |
Gold Member Username: 420alldaylongPost Number: 2775 Registered: Sep-06 | Powerbass ASA amps do around %80 of rated power and the Powerbass XA amps do rated power. |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 653 Registered: Jun-06 | thats why I said above, 20% over ratted... |
Gold Member Username: 420alldaylongPost Number: 2776 Registered: Sep-06 | How much will you be paying for this Powerbass ASA2000.1D? I think you already told me but I for got there to much to keep up with. |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 654 Registered: Jun-06 | Found it on this web site for $289.95, Free Shipping http://www.millionbuy.com/powasa20001d.html |

Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 658 Registered: Jun-06 | Between the alt I posted above and this alt: http://www.db-starter-alternator.com/Items/8156-3-200amp? Which one would be a better pick? |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 659 Registered: Jun-06 | LOL, just looked at both of them and they are the same alt, but the one from ebay is a CS130 and the one from db-starter-alternator is a CS130D. Does the D in the model number make a difference? |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 3503 Registered: Jul-06 | The GM CS130D is a newer, more reliable version of the CS130. Between the two you posted I would definitely go with the one from DB as it has more idle amperage. Also I can personally vouch for the quality of that companies alternators since I'm currently running one. |

Gold Member Username: JuliobSanto DomingoDominican Re... Post Number: 4982 Registered: Dec-05 | Joe could you post a benchtest when you get that ASA 2000D, i wanna see facts, not rumors |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 664 Registered: Jun-06 | lol, alright. I can get a bench test at any local audio shop right? And does it cost anything? |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 665 Registered: Jun-06 | I saw this when looking at the DB alt: "For safety, we recommend installing a fused 4 gauge main charging wire to allow maximum current flow to your battery." Should I be using the 4 gauge wire? I always thought the Big 3 was with 0/1 gauge? |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 666 Registered: Jun-06 | Ok, just bought the alt through DB but, the 2000.1D is on Backorder!!!!!!!!!! |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 3519 Registered: Jul-06 | They mean you need to use a MINIMUM of 4 gauge wire. 0 gauge is what is recommended for the Big 3. |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 667 Registered: Jun-06 | Oh, I see... |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 668 Registered: Jun-06 | Bought the amp! Now I just have to wait for it all to arrive |

Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 671 Registered: Jun-06 | ^^^LOL Just got my alt in today from DB. Im surprised how quick it got to me. Only took...(thinking)...two freakin days!!! |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 3553 Registered: Jul-06 | Wow that's fast. Mine took like 2 weeks. |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 673 Registered: Jun-06 | Anyone know what size fuse I should be using at the battery for this amp? I tried looking for some info on the fuses that are on/in the amp but, can't find anything about it... |
Gold Member Username: JuliobSanto DomingoDominican Re... Post Number: 4991 Registered: Dec-05 | 200A ANL fuse will work |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 675 Registered: Jun-06 | Anyone use one of these before? Kindof interested in giving it a try. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8393_Absolute+DICB200.html |
Gold Member Username: JuliobSanto DomingoDominican Re... Post Number: 4994 Registered: Dec-05 | I'd buy something from a reputable brand but in my experience, it doesn't matter too much for example i have a friend using a Mclaren Fuse holder (crappiest ever) with 140A fuse and it's still working so i think absolute should behave 10 times better lol! |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 676 Registered: Jun-06 | LOL, well, I just want to get something with a digital voltage read on it. Ive seen some Stinger ones at my Stereo Shop, but there nearly $50 and there really bulky. |
Gold Member Username: JuliobSanto DomingoDominican Re... Post Number: 5008 Registered: Dec-05 | any updates joe?! |
Silver Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 688 Registered: Jun-06 | Not yet. My order of 14ft of Kicker 0/1 gauge wire is comming Friday and I get my paycheck today . If I have enough money left over after I pay a few bills, im gonna go out and buy a new battery and do the Big 3 hopefully tomorrow if I have time. |
Bronze Member Username: DurskiPost Number: 30 Registered: Nov-06 | FYI: A refund check from college is usually money that you borrowed that was not 100% used for your tuition. I.E. not free money, a portion of a student loan that must be paid back. But you seem like a smart guy, I'm sure you know this already. |
