Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 111 Registered: Jul-06 | cause i dont want to go buy one...i don't have any audio shops near bye...the only ones are like 30min away....and i have plenty of MDF to use
Silver Member Username: Killer44Ontario Canada Post Number: 967 Registered: Dec-04 | u dont have to buy a round port at a shop...im sure there is a home depot or a lowes, or any store selling construction material around you, all u need is a pvc or abs plumbing pipe...most ppl use 3" or 4" diameter...you can even flare them yourself with a heat gun and a bowl...
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 112 Registered: Jul-06 | i don't want to mess with all that..i just wanna make a square port

Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 316 Registered: Sep-06 | John, Whats the width of the box for this design and don't forget to say whether there ID or OD, I'll be able to tell you the volume of the enclosure based on the dimensions ya post. |
|
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 123 Registered: Jul-06 | the box is 30"wide.....outside to outside...thanks for the help Phil
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 124 Registered: Jul-06 | i get 4.65 cu ft give or take a little thats without the speaker or the port displacement |
|
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 318 Registered: Sep-06 | Josh, The enclosure's TOTAL volume is 3.84 cu.ft. before any displacements. The side surface area subtracting for 3/4" Material total is 233.0984 sq.in x 28.5" ( ID Width ) = 6643.3044 cu.in. ÷ 1728 = 3.84 cu.ft. |

Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 125 Registered: Jul-06 | ok...well how should i port it....what shold i tune it to
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 322 Registered: Sep-06 | Josh, Here's your box. simplest approach would be to move the sub to one side and put the port as shown. Port Size - 4 x 10 x 19 1/2" |
|
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 126 Registered: Jul-06 | sweet....so the port would be alright facing the rear of the car....oh and what program did you use to make that...just curious
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 323 Registered: Sep-06 | Yeah, the port is fine firing back like that, unless the port is going to be obstructed by something. I use Sketch Up to draft the design of the enclosure and I used BBP 6 to calculate the spec's of the design. |

Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 127 Registered: Jul-06 | yea i think it might be...what if i ported it on the side....man that other box looks a little to complex for me...it looks badazz tho
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 128 Registered: Jul-06 | what year was the mustang that design was for.....how many cu ft is the box...would it work for my L7...would you be will to give me ur designs for it...
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 326 Registered: Sep-06 | Josh, To be honest, I don't remember the year stang that enclosure was designed for, but, I do know that the designed is based off an existing design I did for a 2002 Ford Mustang GT - Dims - 31" x 10 1/2" x 23 1/4" and then the design what modified to fit the owners stang @ 34"w x 14"h x 27"d. As for the first design with port firing back. Here are two other designs with the port firing up: This one has the port still at 4 x 10 x 19 1/2. This one, the port is 5 x 8 x 18 11/16 |
|
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 129 Registered: Jul-06 | 4 inchs wide...that kinda big...but i am sure you know a hole lot more than me on this stuff so i think i am gonna go with it.....oh thank for all you help Phil...you one hell of a guy...what is the box tuned to
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 327 Registered: Sep-06 | Port Tuning falls in around 38Hz. As for the port itself, keep in mind that kicker spec's state the port area for 3 cu.ft. @ 2.5" x 16.25" or 40 5/8" sq.in., so, 4 x 10 = 40 sq.in. of port area is on the mark. Sweating that 5/8 isn't going to squat one way or the other. |
|
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 130 Registered: Jul-06 | alright...well i think i am gonna put the port on the side of the box...what do you think...
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 328 Registered: Sep-06 | well, you can put the port on the side, ya got enough height there at the back. Just make sure you got the clearance on the side. |
|
Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 6513 Registered: Nov-04 | Woodlawn, what program are you using to design the boxes? Just curious.
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 131 Registered: Jul-06 | he uses sketch up.....
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 329 Registered: Sep-06 | Isaac, As josh already said I use Sketch Up to do the draft designs of the enclosure's, but, I use Bass Box Pro 6 to calculate the enclosure specifications. |
|
Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 6516 Registered: Nov-04 | Makes sense. For the design you posted, it would've been too complicated to do it manually.
Silver Member Username: Bayrent88Ingleside, Texas USA Post Number: 132 Registered: Jul-06 | the 2d draiwing is mine....i used autoCAD to make that one
Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 330 Registered: Sep-06 | Before Sketch Up, doing 3 dimensional drafts was a royal pain in the azz to do in 2 dimensions and for years I searched hi and low for a program that I could do drafting and designing to scale in 3D. The one day on another forum out of the blue someone pointed me to Sketch Up and when I first starting posting sketch up drafts on forums, everyone wanted to know what program I was using and the rest is history. |

Bronze Member Username: TinytruckDuluth, Ga US of A Post Number: 62 Registered: Oct-06 | alright, i hate to mess up yall's flow, but i have a problem...I have a ranger extended cab, with 2 kicker 15" L5's in a sealed box. Inside the box i have filled it with polyfill, and it is a single chamber box. I want to do a round port, simply for the ease of it all. I am thinking about using 4" pvc from homedepot, and using a hole saw that way i am sure to get a perfect circle. MY question is how long do iu need to make the pvc, and do i use 1 or 2 of them? Please feel free to call me (404)-680-4915 thanks-tiny |
