Kicker Subs?

Are Kicker subs all about SPL or SQ or 50/50?

In the old days they made some killer SQ speakers(mid 80's)

I'm only asking because I just replaced a Pioneer LowPro 12 for a Kicker CVT12.

The Pioneer sounds better at low volumes but go's real sloppy at any kind of higher volume(ie Hot day on freeway). The kicker is kinda not there at low volume but really shines at high volumes, Think it needs a little run-in time? If the kicker does not brakeIn, I'm going to try the EarthQuake next.

Do the kicker subs need a little time to get lose?

the only kicker subs id even consider buying would be the comp VRs,im not even sure if they still make them. but the lower models of kicker are junk and dont sound good at all IMO. and the L7s/L5s will get loud but sound like crap and will more than likley blow whithin a few months,i no that from personal experience,my friend had a 10" L7 and was blown in about 3 months. If i were u id go with another sub. Whats your budget?

I could go up to $300. I can get the EarthQuake SWS12 for $140.

You ever hear the EQ? are they any good?

never heard anything from earthquake. but ppl say they make good amps. for 300 bucks u can get ALOT better than either of those subs youve listed. what are u after,sq,sql, spl? and what kind of power are u planning on running?

SQ first but I do like volume(in the car). Running 400 watts(little over 500 when the engine is running) rms into 2 ohms.

I've heard good things about the EarthQuake subs, like they only need 50 watts rms to play loud and the work well with a IB mounting.

You're not sure if they still make their most popular sub that's been around forever?

FYI - CVRs are considered a lower model...Kicker makes comps < cvr (cvt) < cvx for sql and L5 < L7 < Solo for spl.

I have a cvx and its was a good value sub but i wouldn't recommend Kicker subs to anyone that knows about higher quality subs.

CVTs have less output than cvrs from what i've heard, so i would look elsewhere.

I can only speak for the durability of earthquake subs. I have had a pair of 12" earthquakes since 1993-1994, and they still work perfect. And I have been giving them hell for years.

i dont think the L7s suck an the only reason why the would blow is either u dnt how to hook em up rite or u dnt give em time to break in the only sub that i think would compete with them is the mtx 9500s or re audio sx series

Well its been 24 hours and the CVT12 is sounding 200% better than a day ago. I'm getting alot more inter bass detail as the sub losens up.

I ran pick noise to the sub all night at a high level. Yes I did have the battery on a 40 amp charger.

I'm using a Crossfire VR401 mono at 400 watts into 2 ohms for the CVT122. here's a pic of my amp.

Also I had a chance to hear a earthquake in my ride and it was different than the Kicker but not any better or worst. Its not worth me spending another $150. on the EQ when the CVT is sounding so good.
