Pioneer avh-p7480dvd with no graphics

i'm a newbie to the forum...i'm currently installing a pioneer avh-p7480dvd. For some reason the unit plays dvds and it plays cds...but i don't see any background graphics...what could be wrong? I can't accsess any of the settings menus either.
