Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1527 Registered: Dec-06 | No one? |
Silver Member Username: KravenbloodOhio Hmmm Post Number: 283 Registered: Aug-05 | that means at least a 4" port for each one |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6165 Registered: Jun-04 | yes thats what I had set up for you the equivalent of two four inch ports |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6166 Registered: Jun-04 | 12.56 square inches of port in one 4 inch port x 2 = 25.12 square inches but the depth on a 4 inch is about twice as long as two 2 inches would be and its the same port area then if it was two four inches you would have four 2 inch ports |
New member Username: Kyle7560Post Number: 7 Registered: Feb-07 | actually you'd need 8 2" ports to equal 2 4" |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6181 Registered: Jun-04 | no you wouldnt |
Silver Member Username: MendonmafiaUSA Post Number: 401 Registered: Aug-06 | actually sean, kyle is correct 8 2inch ports would yeild ~25 sq inches of port area. but Ben go with 2 4inch cuz 8 2inch would just be mad gaay to install. and yes 2 4inch ports will be enough area for thoes. |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6182 Registered: Jun-04 | ok well 4 two inches would still be enough port area reguardless |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6183 Registered: Jun-04 | I dont know what I was thinking in terms of the port area but I got it now LOL |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6184 Registered: Jun-04 | the problem ben is having is its a .60 cubic foot box for two 8's and he wants a 35 hz port tune......very long port there using two 4 inch ports id say or even a slot port of of the same 25 square inches |
Platinum Member Username: Rovin4 10 Pioneer... Post Number: 11968 Registered: Jul-05 | do consider smaller port hole\s = possible port noise .... |
Platinum Member Username: Rovin4 10 Pioneer... Post Number: 11969 Registered: Jul-05 | on the other hand too big of a port area especially when using pipes or 1 pipe = 1 long pipe which sometimes often tend to be a problem when designing a box ..... |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6186 Registered: Jun-04 | I was just thinking that rovin....thats wierd haha |
Platinum Member Username: Rovin4 10 Pioneer... Post Number: 11970 Registered: Jul-05 | yes - many times i have to sit a long time trying to reshape a box on my pc to get a single long pipe port to fit good with enough spacing at the end of the port (at least the diameter of the port) to allow proper air flow etc pipe\aero ports r so darn easy to use but the design can be a pain in the b\utt sometimes especially when trying to get it to also fit\occupy a certain amt of space in ur car ..... |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6190 Registered: Jun-04 | ben im going to do my best to come up with a working design for you.....I consider it a challenge now... let me know your car demensions |
Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1528 Registered: Dec-06 | haha have some fun sean my car dimensions don't really matter. you can make the box as big or little as you want - it's only two 8" subs in a big trunk (mercury sable) |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6191 Registered: Jun-04 | well the stinkin port will make this thing pretty large so demensions will help me know what direction to go with it |
Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1530 Registered: Dec-06 | My current box is 34 wide x 15 tall x 15.5 deep. That's kinda pushing it tho. Let's say I have 36x14x14 to deal with. |
Bronze Member Username: Talon01York, Pa Usa Post Number: 43 Registered: Jun-07 | I doubt your limited to 14 depth (if you really mean depth) but heres what I got so far..... 17.75 wide x 8.5 high x 8.75 deep = .76397 minus .16 for subs 87.75 inch long port 8.5 x 3 port 25.5 square inch port 17.75 long 1st port length with 1.5 for turn = 19.25 17.75 2nd port length with 1.5 for turn = 38.5 17.75 3rd port length with 1.5 for turn = 57.75 17.75 4th port length with 1.5 for turn = 77.00 10. 00 5th port length with 1.5 for turn = 87.00 plus .75 for wood thickness at the front of the port exit = 87.75 port on the side 35 hz port tune...will this fit |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6192 Registered: Jun-04 | that was me above Ill need to make adjustments yet but I cant do that until I know your answer |
Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1531 Registered: Dec-06 | Yeah that will fit just fine. |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6196 Registered: Jun-04 | Here you go all done 17.75 wide internal x 8.5 high internal x 8.75 deep internal = .76397 minus .16 for subs 87.75 inch long port 8.5 x 3 port 25.5 square inch port 17.75 long 1st port length with 1.5 for turn = 19.25 17.75 2nd port length with 1.5 for turn = 38.5 17.75 3rd port length with 1.5 for turn = 57.75 17.75 4th port length with 1.5 for turn = 77.00 10. 00 5th port length with 1.5 for turn = plus .75 for wood thickness at the front of the port exit 87.75 port on the side 17.75 wide 8.5 high 8.75 deep 3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for first port length 3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for second port length 3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for third port length 3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for fourth port length 3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for fifth port length 18.75 inches depth plus 8.75 deep for subs plus 1.5 inches = 29.00 deep external 19.25 wide external 10.00 high external 29.00 deep external Youll have a 4.75 wide by 3.75 wide by 8.5 high area that will need filled in with bracing and a three inch port opening for the start of your port inside the box and youll come out with about a 33.64 hz port tune |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6198 Registered: Jun-04 | one huge box for .65 cubic feet net aprox. |
Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1532 Registered: Dec-06 | Awesome. Thanks a ton. I appreciate it. |
Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1533 Registered: Dec-06 | Not trying to be an a** - but isn't this giving the same thing in a simplified form? Mike from SS just told me to go to that site. No matter what I really appreciate all the work you did. I will be using all that info, I just wanted to ask about this as well. http://www.klausaudio.com/caraudio/subwoofer_boxes/customize_preview.cfm?boxid=5 4743&productid=175 http://www.klausaudio.com/myaccount/view_box_design.cfm?boxid=54743 |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6199 Registered: Jun-04 | no that is for 1.20 for both subs cubic feet net....mine was .65 net for both subs....ss recommends .30 per sub at 35 hz ....why did the site recommend 1.20 cf net? |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6200 Registered: Jun-04 | but if you want to use what you got from that site go for it...it is easier |
Gold Member Username: MgbcsMaple Grove, Minnesota Post Number: 1534 Registered: Dec-06 | Well I know the site recommends .3 cuft, but when I got that email from Mike, he said that I could do with a box .6 cuft each sub and tune it to 33 if I want a good SQL box. I would be inclined to go with what the site says, but if the man himself said it is cool, then I guess it would work. |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 6202 Registered: Jun-04 | yup I agree do what the man himself says |
