are you properly powering them? and why not try porting them and see if you like them better. then if you decide you still want new subs go from there. or just post a budget now and start all over.
those are very decent entry level subs, When you say they aren't loud enough what exactly are you looking for? What amp do you have running them currently?
they are 4ohm single voice coil wired parallel to an old...and I mean old, hifonics ISIS. spec on the amp say 500rms @ 2ohm.
They are loud, but I listn to a variety of music, rock, techno, rap, digital...you name it.
I agree with Benjamin that 15's and 18's can sound sloppy especially in metal with the double kickers. But 10's aren't going to suck the air out of you're nose when you play the really deep stuff.
I believe you about the 18, but for sq don't you want to dish out the right freq to the appropriate speaker? I mean, for example; we have tweeters for highs, the mids, then mid-bass, bass, and finally sub-bass. So why not 10's for mid-bass/bass and an 18 for sub-bass?
I do want to upgrade, but its been a while since I've had the time or money and I want to get it right.
Sorry Jess, no keekers. I don't support them no more bud.
Gary, for mid-bass the 8 inchers work well. the typical sound system has tweeters, mid-bass, and bass. 6 1/2's and 8's are your regualr mid range speakers. 10 inchers and up are your subwoofers. Grab a NICE 6.5 comp set, and a 15.
There are 8's built for lows as well, but MOST 8's are mid range That better. I'm thinking 4 8's myself right now. I am selling my current to my cousin.
ok I know that tuning has to do with port size, but how do I find that size and what style of port is better...slotted or tube or maybe something else?
