i know there has been a couple of questions about grounding.but here goes....i have a 1/0 guage knukonceptz power wire and in adition i have some 2 guage streetwires power wire. my queston is can i use the 0 guage power wire and use the 2 guage for a ground? i am running 1600 watts and the 2 guage streetwire is rated for around 1500-2500 watts. would that be okay or could i atleast ground my cap and amp with the 2 guage?
The general rule is that power and ground wire need to be the same size.
However, wire gauge AND length of the wire both affect how much current it can carry. If your ground wire is VERY short (and I mean very), you can get away with the 2 gauge, reason being that a very short 2 gauge wire can carry the same amount of current as a very long 0 gauge wire.
But the best thing is to do it right and just get a little more 0 gauge.
"could i use the 2 guage for a new ground on my alternator?"
Dude, just use 1/0 the first time and save yourself some money in the long run.If you already have the 2 awg and absolutely have no money to afford the 1/0 then it's understandable but you should definately run 1/0 at the end of your install.
