hey guys i just bought a 85 caprice and im fixing it up and i want to have a killer system but im stuck between 4 L7 15's or two btl 18's i already have my amps which are two zx2500's. my question is which set of subs should i go with
I designed all of the RE products that they currently have available (RE, SR, SE, SX, MX MT, and XXX). The BTL with the extra magnet and SPL tolerences are VERY similar to the MT. The main differences are that we use a much heavier leadwire and usually a 5 spider pack instead of 4. The standard BTL with 2 magnets is very close to the MT as well as there is only a couple % motor strength difference between the 2 or 3 magnet BTL/MT. The BTLs can be machined for many different coils and options where the MT only comes with the standard setup. Adding the pole chamfer aids in reducing the back pressure under the dustcap and increases cooling a little, the full cooling helps relieve pressure even more as well as increases cooling quite a bit for daily apps. The fully loaded BTL is a monster. It drops deep and has lower inductance for increased upper end efficiency as well. 28mm of Xmax vs 14-16 for the MT (depending on the coil used). The MT is a solid sub, but it cant be tweaked for the users application. Its track record in the SPL lanes speak volumes for it. I decided to take the BTL a few steps further.
I was very happy with the 2 18s. They sounded really good imo, and if you ever wanted to give them more power you could. If you can fit them in there that would be sick, plus 18s really are nice looking.
I hihgly doubt you can fit 2 18s in a caprice without going sealed in the trunk... i've never seen a onk with a wall in it, so you might just want to stick with 15s and probably just a couple of them....
hold up hold up...THATS NOT A DONK...That my friend is a Box Chevy.
Donk=71-76 Caprice/Impala Box=77-90 Caprice/Impala Bubble=91-96 Caprice or 94-96 Impala
Now that we have an understandin of that if I were you I'd do like Reese said and just go with a couple of BTL 15s ported. 18s are cool but I wouldn't want to have em if I can't get the most out of them due to them having to be sealed. Just my .02 tho. Do what you want. Good luck
No I'm not fu(king kidding you...Everysince the south's terms of cars made it mainstream everybody seems to think a car with big rims is a "Donk" but this is not the case. Maybe I should leave it alone. Many would not understand...
nah its specificly the type of car, donks are donks (term started here in dade county). box chevys are boxes because they are box shaped. 92-96 caprices/impalas are bubbles because of their round bubblish shape.
big wheels down here are called everything from 'ridin big' to sky skrapin'. down here in dade theyve been riding on 30" wheels for a while now.
ha ha thats tru on the terms that whut we say in VA but no1 i know says donk..... we dont have those we got people with Vics an Caprices with rims an what not
Imagine the horrible angle on the drive-shaft The poor transmission has to push all that heavy sh1t and the poor brakes with all the increased rotating weight.
well thats why some people get a stronger transmission and upgrade the brakes, only time im going to drive mine is on weekends and i dont know if i want to keep my 26's or drop down to 24's
yea 4s may do better but i know a guy with 4s on a 06 regal i got 20s on a 1990 park ave im kinda mad do cuz a lot of ppl told me that 22s would mess stuff up but i kinda think that will take some time to do
