Ok I want to put a new head unit into my 96 maxima. It has the factory bose system. I'm running a cadence txa-1000D amp right now off the rear speakers with a hi-low converter.
I'd like to install the Pioneer DEH-4900iB. Circuit City has a deal on that HU, $149 plus free install. I get there to get more info and the guy tells me that I need to pay an extra $130 for "rewiring," plus $60 for extra parts, plus the price of the head unit. He also said that I have to replace all of the speakers in my car and re-wire them as well.
1. I get the desire for new speakers, fine - new HU = more power. I'll keep it down, I don't want to replace the speakers just yet. For my next car I'm going to replace all that and amp them, etc, but I'm only keeping this car for another year.
2. What is with CC telling me I need to do all kinds of **** with this bose. When I was putting in an amp for my SUBWOOFERS ONLY they told me I needed to replace all of the in car speakers and put in "bass blockers" (I assume they meant a HPF for the car speakers), because the signal would be "triple amped" and would blow all the speakers. Guess what...WRONG...obviously. Yes I know its good to use a HPF for the in car speakers, but the fact that I added an amplified sub doesn't mean the in car speakers are gonna blow.
3. Ok, perhaps it does have an amp after the head unit, in which case what do I need to do? I just refuse to believe I need an extra $60 in parts and a full rewire. It just doesn't seem right. I was going to have them do the job bc it seemed like a good deal, but now I'll just do it bc it's not a good deal.
Basically, wtf do I need to do, and what is the truth here? The main reason I'm replacing the HU is that its skipping like a mother right now. And it will go in my next car so its no big deal to just pick it up now....
Give me a hand on this one...I accept that I may be totally wrong and they may be totally right..
