ok i have a few questions about isolators. how would i connect the wires. it says battery 1 and 2 and then alternator. how would i keep my big three with isolator in between? i was just goin to use a kinetik hc1600 under the hood and a hc2400 in the trunk with no isolator but instead of getting a new started battery what if i just put a kinetik hc2400 in the back and keep my stock one with an isolator? would that be ok to do? and i have a 200 amp alt. so would i need to get a 200 amp isolator. if anyone could just draw me up a litte sketch that would be sweet.
Go to bcae1.com and read on isolator. It has everything you need to install one. If your alternator is 200A, then you really don't need 200A isolator, just waste of money. Look at something in the range of 160A - 180A max cause you'll never get 100% of the 200A. You connect the alternator that currently goes to the battery into the alternator in the isolator. Then the starter battery goes to batt1, your aux to batt2 in the isolator. You should also have another connector labled "remote" or "ignition." That goes to the ignition wire in the car. The instruction should come with the isolator.
Depending on how you wire it, it can help. For example, leave the starter battery for starting and running the car, use the 2nd battery for powering amps and any other accessories. Make sure isolator is installed. Kinetik does sell deepcycle batteries, so does Optima.
im gonna go with a red top 34/78 to start and then add a isolator and possibly a kinetik hc2000 or 2400. do you think that would be a good set up as far as power?
In Optima series, the red is for starting, and yellow is the deepcycle battery. Why don't you stick with one brand? If you're going with Kinetik, then make sure the voltages are the same.
Yea you can get away for a week. Just don't drain the batteries cause the starter is not a deepcycle. Kinetik is suppose to be better but I doubt you'll be able to tell a difference by ear.
