I just got the Pioneer Premier DEH-P790BT head unit and am having trouble with the AM tuner. Basically, I can only hear something on the AM frequency if I turn it up really loud. And even then, the sound is still faint. The FM tuner works a little better but is still a little faint when compared to the CD player.

Is this a problem with the head unit? Or is it just a con that comes with an aftermarket head unit (this is what the guy at Tweeter told me)?

no there is no con that comes with a after market head unit in the sort of radio , sheesh if anything a after market can sound 10 times better , could just need to recheck ut antenna jack connection and make sure it's nice and tight.also see if ur on fm 1 2 or 3 diff bands of fm and am u select can affect it to also if ur antenna in external or built into the window can make a diff to.

yeah i was thinking the same thing. but the guy at tweeter said that a lot of times after market HU don't have good tuners and that the reception isn't as good. that didn't make sense to me. i mean the 790bt has the supertuner iii which should be better than my factory unit right?? i was expecting a step up, not a complete loss of audio when it comes to AM stations and a small step down in FM stations.

haha

should of went with eclipse

if you reconnect the antenna and it still doesent work try to buy a new antenna because somtimes they get brittle inside of the door panel and dont work well. before you take it out though make sure you can get it back in, because hose can be a b*tch to get in somtimes.
