You have to take the caliper off so that you can get the pads out and then you just put the new ones in it and put the caliper back on...Simple as that.

For brake drum pads, Pull off the drum, You may need to beat it off with a hammer, Then pry them out with a screw driver, careful to keep track of where stuff mounted, springs mostly. Install in reverse order.

For Disc pads, remove wheel, use a "C" clamp to depress piston, pads should fall out. Install in reverse order.

Or Go to the library and borrow a chiltons.
Or google a car repair site.

b4 u put new ones in take sum big channel locks and the OLD pad and depress the piston then install new pad put back on then bleed the brakes. to bleed u need a buddy press 2 on the brake then the third hold it down til it hits the floor (and he closes it up) have ur buddy open the line on the n1pple and bleed each line til its a solid stream

You only need to bleed them if you open the brake lines.

If you dont open them, dont bleed them. You will let air in if you dont know what your doing. And when I say dont open them I mean dont turn any bleeder screws, or back off any brake lines. If thats part of the job, then you will need to bleed them. But a simply pad job does not involve bleeding.

I had my brakes done and rotors replaced by a "well known" establishment. Dude behind the counter tried to convince me he has his brakes done twice a year. I looked at him like he had 14 eyes. I don't trust ANY mechanic. I paid over $400 for my brake job and probably only $150 was parts.

Spay em with wd40, then use a torch, and a pipe on the wrench. I assume your talking about the caliper bolts? They freeze up due to the heat/cool cycle. But soak em for a while then torch em till they are hot. Hit em with a hammer, then put a longer pipe on your ratchet. BTW, Use a Sears ratchet, cause you may break it. I used a box wrenck with a piece of 2' pipe on it.

Dont worry about breaking thoose bolts either. your wrenches will break before they will. Worst case, You may have to drill em out, and re-tap the thing. But thats a lot of work. Spay they hell out of it tonight and let it soak over night.

BTW, use break cleaner to get rid of the wd40 after your done.
