can the wrong fuse size in an amplifier cause an effect on the speakers as far as causing them to smoke? i took my amp into a shop and the store rep hooked my amp up to their subs and they started smoking and pushed the speakers out without any sound. the store rep said it was due to the wrong fuse sizes...i grabbed my amp and left but i think i blew their subs.
Well, I think the rep hooker it up wrong myself. If it had a fuse and there was a fault in the amp it would blow regardless of the size. What amp was it/ and what subs.
sound like the source was sending a DC signal, or some how the amp was interperting it wrong into just the out motion of the sub. so it was sending it straight DC current. and thus heated up the coils very very fast.
has nothing at all to do with the fuse. I bet they messed up somewhere and just wanted to blame you instead of themselves.
so is it something wrong with my amp then, because the amp did the same thing to my subs when i went out one morning and started my car....what can i do about the amp?
"Lifetime" warranty is only as good as the company's profit. If they don't make any money, there will be no warranty. Look at all the tv/stereo stores that used to say guaranteed forever. They all disappeared.
Well, I had the impression that they were after talking to 2 diffrent Memphis dealers. But the site implies a 1 year, but may vary depending on what you bought.
Hmmm.? From the site..

Extended Warranty with MECP Installation
In an effort to promote high-quality, professional installation, Memphis Car Audio offers a free one-year warranty extension on its products that are sold and installed by MECP certified installers. Memphis is the first company in the 12-volt industry to offer an MECP warranty extension. This is in addition to the existing product warranty.
"This program benefits everyone, the consumer, retailers who employ MECP-certified installers, and our company," said Memphis President Arthur Fulmer III. "After 42 years in the car audio business we've learned that products which are installed properly will perform better and last longer. Quality installation also enhances the consumer's satisfaction, which is simply good business."
Harry Massey, manager of CEMA's mobile electronics division, said the warranty extension plan was a great way to emphasize the importance of installation quality and industry professionalism.
"Memphis Car Audio is the only company offering a warranty extension of this kind," said Massey. "This shows they are a leader in the car audio industry because they care about education, training, and quality installation."
The MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professionals) program began in 1991. There are six levels of 12-volt installation certification: Installer, First Class Installer, Security Specialist, Autosound Specialist, and Master Installer. There are approximately 6,000 certified installers in the United States.
Memphis Car Audio received the MECP Manufacturer Of The Year Award in 2004.
Standard warranties vary based on the product family. See your local Memphis Car Audio dealer for complete details
Just because they work in a car audio shop doesn't mean they know sh!t. To be sure ppl: Just because they post in a car audio forum doesn't mean they know sh!t, either. ;)
Check you input diode for possible shorting. If it is the outputs that are bad (and it sounds as if this is the case), it is time for a new Timex.
Well, the reason I thought that was cause this dude Bought 3 of my Memphis amps, 2 ST-1000D's and a ST-1500D and said that his buddy owned a car audio shop that would warranty these amps if he ever had problems with em. His buddy would send them in for repairs as if he sold them. Kinda dodgy, but thats the impression I got.
