well it says 50-500 watts rms for these 2 subs... so wouldn't "(480 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)" be ideal ?

480 watts a piece?

yes...but in car audio its always great to have "headroom"...Less problems if you have "headroom"

also type r's can take the extra power..they are decent subs

Profile is a budget brand. Go for something better if you can afford it.

profiles are pretty decent. i just recently blew the 2000 watt model though. i had it hooked up to a soundsplinter rl-p bridged at 4 ohms. it was loud........ my new zed audio minilith sounds much much nicer although not quite as loud.

"i just recently blew the 2000 watt model though."

By "2000 watt" you mean 960, right?

Jake, for less than $200, IMO you won't do better than the AP2000. I would bet against it doing rated power, maybe 800-900. But if you were to wire your dvc 4's for 4 ohms and bridge the amp - ~400w a piece would be PLENTY to get good performance out of them.

With your budget though (around $300), I would agree with Chauncey. You can get a pretty solid class D (mono) amp that would give you a bit more power, and at the same time be less stressful to your charging system.

yes it was a 2000 watt with 960 rms bridged at 4 ohms. and i would definately go with a class D mono if i were you. i just switched over and i am extremely pleased with the switch. definately go mono amp with subs hands down.

While I have designed some Profile amped systems that would blow sunroofs open, they were never intended to be long lifers. Living a few miles from their 'factory', I can attest to this. They do however, make very good paperwieghts in the long run.
BTW if I read that correctly, 40 watts more is not headroom and the main idea of 'headroom' is more dynamics (more than it is about less 'problems').
2000 watts rms would only be about 3db of headroom over 960 watts.
Personal tastes abound, but I prefer headroom on the order of 6db.

umm heh, ya well i guess another thing to consider is the fact that i dont listen to rap or much of anything with serious bass, i guess i just want plenty of power, even if its not needed... all i know is its a cheap amp and got grand reveiws at crouchfield...

i just noticed, it says:

Peak Output Power (2 Ohms) 1000W x 2

does that X2 mean, if bridged each sub gets 1000 watts?

sorry for the stupidity...

I could name 500 bands and artists that have nothing to do with 'rap' that have plenty of bass.

1000Wx2
This is because it's rated and branded with its' potential peak output.. which is about 1000 watts per channel. The rms is about 1/2 of that. Most good amp makers never brag about their peak output since it is essentially useless for system planning and design. The old Autotek BTS 40 was 20Wx2 but would do 90 watts bridged all day long into a 4 ohm mono load since its' output stages were 40% under-rated. I used one in an install with a single 30" EV (8 ohm mono) and it would blow ya over when it was called for.

you are not stupid.. you are learning and the fact that you are asking 1st is a good sign that you are on the path to knowledge. ;)
cheers

one more question...

i was gonna get a 1/0 gauge wire kit for this amp but i noticed today that it says:

Power/Speaker Terminal Size (Gauge) 4 / 6

does that mean i need a 4 or 6 gauge? or i just need to make a huge 1/0 gauge to fit the clamp thingy..?
