Bronze Member Username: CuriousPost Number: 75 Registered: Dec-05 | ok guys i give up.....now i have two alpine type r subs they are 12" and they are the dual 2ohm voice coil versions now i have them hooked up to a kenwood 910d2 subwoofer amplifier......now i used the wire wizard from rockford fosgates site to wire the subs but i cant figure out why they cut off. i mean i know that amp isnt to powerful for the subs because its only 825 watts and those subs can handle much more. now the system is hooked up to an alpine head unit that uses the ipod connecter also.... so the system is in a 2002 dodge stratus se.......my lights dem when the bang hits and now it seems like the subs come on sometimes and hit some notes but then they dont for others. i had hooked up a crossover and it was louder but it seemed like the subs would cut off faster so i took it out thats when they started to act funny and really not play......i also have a 1.2 capacitator hooked up also. please help guys im running 4 gauge wire to. |

Kenwood are are a huge P.O.S. and are very inefficient (they draw a lot of current). |

It doesn't happen that much though. My lights don't dim or anything like yours does. I think it stopped recently, well I hope it did, after I finished adjusting the gains. |

Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 2822 Registered: Jul-06 | While you're at it you can sell that capacitor as well..... they don't help the electrical system at all. It's just one more thing for the alternator to charge. |
Bronze Member Username: CuriousPost Number: 79 Registered: Dec-05 | lol ok i have heard that before also but it was after i bought it. so what are theyfor? |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 2823 Registered: Jul-06 | To look pretty....... and for the companies that make them to make money by claiming they do things that they don't (like stop your lights from dimming or replace the need for an upgraded electrical system). |

Then u will also want to make sure no wires are loose. If the first step did not solve the problem, check your enclosure for any leaks, crack or broken pieces, any lost of structural damage of the enclosure can cause very dramatic performance lost and distortion. If still doesn't work try to check your speakers for any burned leads, or separated components or even unsoldered terminals, u can smell something burning when a sub blows or is acting bad. But hey sometimes when u play your sub too much they will start to heat up and sometimes this is normal but also caused by clipping too. If none of the steps I told you to do you will want to start looking in other electrical components in the vehicle such as damaged alts, batteries power and ground wire, and any connections, and start by checking first your head unit or other processors u might be using. Some problems can even be cause by a special function of your head unit. Still doesn't work??? Try using a dmm and check the ohms of each coil.. and make sure it has good readings then keep checking your electrical stuff and test it one by one. If something wrong u might also want to contact your manufacturer. |

This happened to both me, and a friend of mine, after taking care of it, we never saw the problem again. When checking to see if you have a good ground, make sure that... 1.) you have scrapped the paint off wherever you're bolting it to the chassi. 2.) Make sure the bolt is tightened very tight, and isnt spinning or wobbling loosely. 3.) Make sure the washer you use fits properly between the bolt and the circular metal piece you crimp on the end of your ground wire. If not, this could cause a weaker connection, and increase your possibility for your subs to cut in and out. I hope this helped. |
